Hi.
I am new here :-[and i want your opinion about ebay laser pointers(green).
Unfortunatelly i bought 2-3 from ebay.First one was 50mw green and from the first day i had problem.Beam was dimmed and after a while didnt come on or come on with a weak green beam.In a week it totally break!:(When i turn it on i see a dim red light. Is this infrared laser? Is there a way to fix it?
Second one was a 20mw green. This one last longer but after a month it need to get warm the laser to come on.Anyone know why?Anyway in a few weeks it totally break. Both of them uses 2 AAA alkaline batteries.
Third one is a cheap 5mw green that is still working but i dont know for how long! :'(
Maby ebay green lasers are modified and dont last long?
From where you advise me to buy a good green laser able to light a match and how many mw should be?And what about the price?
Thanks,

and sorry for my english!!!

The reason why it is 389.00 is because it will actually put out over 125mW, most of those "150mW" labeled lasers on eBay only put out 20mW tops.

The ebaysers don't have an IR filter so a 100mw ebayser might be putting out something like 60mw of IR and only 20-40 mw of actual green light.

this 60mw Ir are able to light a match even if its invinsible?
Ir can burn like any other laser color but you can't see it so you can accidentally damage your eyes without even realizing it.

If you buy from ebay you will get crap lasers that break in a month.
Here is another site that you might like.

Dx sells very cheap green lasers that are generally higher quality than ebaysers.[/quote]

Start with DX, unless you really want a good laser and are willing to spend the $$. I believe that most resellers buy from DX anyway, then sell them for way more $$. As Razako already knows, I'm not too fond of DX, quality speaking. But with price, and what seems your position, it might be a good start.

I am in a situation where I somewhat regret spending a ton of $ on DX lasers with not much to show for it but some experience, some fun memories, videos and a few straggler pointers :D. I suggest getting a few 5mW from DX, but be very careful with them because they are very fragile, and the lens is a pain to clean once tiny partials fall into the aperture. All of my 5mW greens are overpowered, making heat and burning thin black plastic. I suggest once you begin spending <50$, that you save up for a better laser with another company like Nova or Optotronics (as I've learned from this forum").

Anyway, I always learn the hard way too! Good luck! ;)

Thanks Ace 82 for reply.if you modified the 5mw laser life is shortened a lot?Because as i say in the first post i thing that ebay laser are heavily modified that why break so easy.

That could be the case, most of the new 5mW green lasers have pump diodes desigend to hold the 5mW output and there isn't much room for overpowering.Or they culd just be made with low quality parts. :P

I also have a 100mw red laser but i dont know if its real 100mw.I supply it with 3.7-4v through a lithium-ion battery.Maximum voltage i can supply it is 5v.To be able to burn a match it need to focus the beam with a magnifier lens.Is this normal for red laser?I mean i see green laser that at 100mw burn a match without the need of a magnifier lens
