DX True 50 vs True 30

Is the True 50 really worth the extra $20 over the 30?

in terms of real world performance, how much brigther is the 50 compared to the 30? also, how visible are these lasers in normal indoor light conditions?

Not sure about the DX versions, but a ~30mW modded galileo (laserglow.com) from scopeguy20 has a visible beam in a medium lit room. The beam in a night sky can appear to touch a star. Anyway, your shopping style is either quantity or quality, I can vouch for the laserglow as its rock solid and has no on/off duty cycle. I am not discounting DX, but I can say any "actual" 30 mW green is very visible. Unless you use external focus lens, a 30mW should not be expected to burn/light things, it is a great pointer to the stars though

i dont think its that much brighter. probably leaks more ir than the 30 though

Both crap. You get what you pay for. Go with the DX 5mW (over rated, cheap, and decent divergence) or the 200mW (cheap, but probably the worst divergence in the industry) I have the true 50 (huge divergence), had (2) true 30's (both had major power issues), true 100 & 150 (I think the true 100 is better then the 150, but I've herd some good things about the 200mW over both the 100 & 150 - but again, expect a huge beam divergence). I am most happy with the 5mW believe it or not. I have purchased many lasers from DX and I have come to the conclusion that these lasers are more for the beginner enthusiast.

i dont think the true 30 is crap. the second i turned it on i was very happy with it. best $30 ive ever spent. i was a little disappointed it didnt burn but i never really expected it to in the first place. i do plan on changing that though, its just a matter of time. i dont think there is anything wrong with the divergence... im sure its probably just an illusion but when i point it into the sky it doesnt look like the beam is getting any bigger at all. it just goes and goes and then just stops suddenly. looks consistent the entire length. my diy red is probably 80-100mw and it doesnt stand a chance against the 30mw green. if i shine the green dot right on top of the red dot you wouldnt even know the red laser was on. not only that but there doesnt seem to be much ir leaking out at all. looking at it through my camera it looks about the same as an ir diode from a tv remote. next green i get i intend on making myself just because i do want a green that will burn stuff, even f it is just from tons of ir leaking out. at least then ill ahve a green dot to help me aim and it will look amazing.

I actually bought 2 of these, the first one was very nice, and I destroyed it (explained on the other thread). The second one I bought had a huge beam divergence, and would never hold power because the diode was loose causing crystal misalignment. On my DX150mW, the lens cracked because my friend used it for my dog to chase for 10min non stop. I was able to retrofit a different set of optics (much better collimated) and was very pleased with it till another friend shook it extremely violently and somehow was never able to get the nice perfect beam again. Anyway, I am most pleased with DX 5mW. It actually produces a little heat and does burn through extremely thin black plastic! And the divergence is decent. I have a theory (and just a thought) that there is actually no real difference between the "true" and the regular DX lasers (other then price). I bought a regular DX 150, and a "true" 100, and they appear exactly the same to me.
