I finally found a DVD Burner that had an Open Can, Long Die, Red Diode in it. Pioneer 112d.

I didn't realise how old this hack was. I had to find some old 18x DVD Burners at the markets. $5 each. I pulled a couple of Brand new 22x burners appart and all the new ones have the Rectangular Diode with IR and Red in the same Packet. Damm Rectangular diodes. We need an Aixiz for them.

I put it in a nice case. One of the 18x18 cases from a Disco Laser Light show. They use a threaded retainer ring for the Diode. So very easy to exchange Diodes in them. I put a bit of heatsink compund on it as well. Not sure if it has a Glass lense or not. But I expect it does. Just in case I have ordered a couple of 3 Peice Red ones. Same size Thread on the 18x18 as the lense in the Aixiz.

Built up a LM317 Driver. Set it at 400ma as that seems to be the recommended current to run them at for good life.

All assembled in a nice metal case.

I have yet to finish my High Power LPM so don't know what power it's putting out. My current LPM only goes up to 30-40mw. The Beam on this Diode sure has a visable beam for 650? nm. And it shines off the clouds at night very well.

Havn't received my Red Glasses yet so won't play with it much.

I know I am behind the times. But better to learn on these cheap diodes before buggering an expensive one. Untill this my Highest power was 50mw Green and 100mw 635nm.

I will have to get one of the new Mitsubishi 635nm 500mw. They must have a nice bright beam at that frequency.

I won't be testing the cutting of Black Electrical tape with this one untill I get my Glasses. I expect it cuts it quickly. My 50mw Green takes about 30 seconds to cut it. The 100mw Red takes about half that time.

Time for bed now.

Charles
