I am new to the forums and found them while searching for some laser info. What im wanting to do is make a laser that fits the cocking tube of my MP5. I see there was a manufacturer of one but i wanted to try my own. So that leads me to some questions and comments....
I have a couple sets of CT lasergrips that i like (read i cant use for parts ) and i like the laser on those. They use two 2032 batteries and get a decent run time. The laser specs are 5mw, 633nm and class IIIA from what ive found out. Do any of you have any ideas on how i can get more specific laser diode info? From what i can tell the diode is only 3 or 4 mm in diameter.
How can i protect the laser from debris when i fire since its only going to be maybe an inch back but above the barrel tip? I thought about lenses but dont know how that will effect the beam or if a certain kind is best to use.
How can i add reliable adjust ability to it? Ive always thought Surefires design was interesting but didnt know how it worked physically. My crimson trace uses just two set screws but i can only assume its a spring or compressible material opposing them.
Concerning dot size is there a figure i can use to figure out the dot size at a certain distance?
If any of you have any ideas for a design im all ears since this is new territory for me.
Thanks for any help.
