Okay - gentlemen, start your drooling ! 8-)

I am making a NICE dvd-burner laser out of a Dorcy Metal Gear 1Watt Luxeon L.E.D. light - it is powered by 3 AAA batts, putting out 3.02volts (internal resistor) at 260ma !! Now, I am going to reverse engineer this light to get more ma out of it - I want it to put out 280-290ma to get the most out of the diode 8-) I wil keep everyone posted, as well as posting pics later today !

Nice!!! Can't wait for the pics!!! :) What type of output are you looking at (mW)?

Re: Dorcy Metal Gear 1 Watt L.E.D. Flashlight mod

I am getting 105mw right now - PLENTY of power to burn with, but I want MORE ! Muahahahahaha ! I can push these diodes a little bit more than that, so I am gonna do that this evening most likely....

What about the pics??? I want to see this baby in action!!!

Re: Dorcy Metal Gear 1 Watt L.E.D. Flashlight mod

I ran outta steam....but, pics tomorrow, I promise !!!

Re: Dorcy Metal Gear 1 Watt L.E.D. Flashlight mod

I'm not really familiar with all these terms yet :-/ , do you mind telling me the difference between that and one I may be making ? sorry

Re: Dorcy Metal Gear 1 Watt L.E.D. Flashlight mod

Oh - well, I am mounting the laser diode using a flashlight as a host for it. It BETTER look as cool as I hope it does ! LOL !!!

When you use a flashlight as a host, you have to make sure you are not exceeding hte reccomended voltage for the laser diode, or the current - or it'll pop ! So, since I know that the junction voltage is 3v, that is well within the limits of hte diode, so that works fine, now the only concern is to boost the amount of current going to the diode. It is running at just about 200 milli-amps right now, and I want it to run at 300ma - so it delivers more "juice" to the diode, boosting the output power. So - I have to remove the resistor that is currently in residence inside the flashlight, and replace it with either another resistor, or a silicon diode (like a 1N4001) that will drop the voltage back down to where it needs to be....

Senkat, when are we gonna see some pics!!!! >:(
I wanna see some now! ;D ;D ;D

Here's another - but undressed, and a test diode attached ! Notice the LOOOOOOOONG leads on the wires....I have not trimmed them up yet for final mounting. I wanted to test it out first - make sure it works really well ! (beam pics will be after final construction !)

it's looking good! ;D
keep us updated and get some more pics one you fully put it together! ;D :D

Re: Dorcy Metal Gear 1 Watt L.E.D. Flashlight mod

Sorry for the letdown on pics tonight - ran outta steam for building :-/ I will have more time tomorrow though ! Check back mid-day "ish" for updates !

Re: Dorcy Metal Gear 1 Watt L.E.D. Flashlight mod

LOTS of pics coming up....
