I have checked out the datasheet which says this is a "hologram laser diode".
I still don't understand anything about it and what it does.

Interesting it says you should bake it @ 100-110 for 24 house to drive moisture out before installing.

Looks like it handles both read and write which would be the reason for the optical component glued to the can, I don't understand why it says hologram, maybe someone else will chime in and explain.

The crystal on the can would be a 3 axis beam splitter which is why it says 3-beam, it's just the 1 emitter and photodiode and IC
