Do you remove the safety label?

I do for pen lasers. My custom builds do not have labels of course.

Edit: I posted this in the green lasers because the other common lasers colors, at least for people in this site, are DIY builds. Most of us wont buy a label for a custom build. :P

No, I leave safety labels on everything over 5mW just because it makes it look more dangerous... If a friend of mine picks up a laser I'd rather him read that hazardous laser radiation is emitted from this aperture, hopefully he'll think twice about shining it in his eyes... Then again, I've given each of my friends a lecture, I'd imagine that'd only happen with remote acquaintances... Still, I leave any power stickers in place, with homebrews I print out an appropriate label and stick it to my laser, and anything over 100mW I print out a "Big Scary Laser" sticker as well.

I'm more afraid of people assuming it's safe because of no label than any possible legal repercussion for it not being safe to begin with.

I usually rip'em off because of the sticky residue they leave if they are allowed to come off slowly. The only exception are my handheld portables which seem to have stronger than normal labels...

Very true. I had an old red pointer and I never removed the label. But after a year or so it was practically falling off and it left that sticky adhesive residue. :(

I don't have any siblings who would mess with them. Although I don't think they will read the label before using it anyways. The way I see it if one is to stupid to realize you shouldn't point a really bright light in our eyes than they shouldn't be handling a laser in the first place. :P

I leave it on so I can prove to people how powerful it is compared to their garbage <5 mW red lasers.

I usually remove them because it makes the laser look sleeker and more polished. It also depends on whether it has a warranty that could be voided if I remove the labels. My blue and green RPL's still have all of the original labels. That may change in a few months when the warranties expire because the labels are already starting to come off naturally and look ugly. On dx lasers and DIY I usually rip the label off right after testing the laser.
