I was out one day and found by chance a small parish church near to me, hidden in a quiet village. It occurred to me that I could hear rushing water. After walking through the graveyard it was apparent that there was a large expanse of water behind the church. There are a few bridges, a large river junction, a fording point, and a magnificent weir, where the water cascades down a steep slope. Naturally I decided that I had to return with a laser at night, and practice some long exposures.
My pictures are taken on a Nikon D90 using a Samyang 24mm manual lens, my laser on this outing was my Dragon Lasers Spartan 1W 447nm (1.6W). So enough rambling... here are the results of my first laser/camera equipped visit to the weir.
Set up above the weir, reflecting a beam.
Focusing on the impact, you can clearly see a tall bridge in the backdrop... I've got ambitious plans for it... perhaps one day to fire a rainbow of light from it and bounce it into the weir
The view from on top of the bridge is fantastic! The weir is a true spectacle when moonlit, and it's even more impressive when viewed from the bridge, the river is loud as it passes 15 feet underneath. The bridge is a mere 2 and a half feet wide, and as I found, was very slippery. Setting up this shot took me some time as I was having difficulty operating up there by moonlight.
Here is the obligatory "selfie" which I figured I'd put in, as nobody on here really knows my face. I'm a bit out of focus, but I jumped in last minute as a laugh whilst focusing on the view.
I hope you've enjoyed this random thread of 447nm goodness I'll be sure to revisit the weir of weird with some serious ambition now that I've explored the area and assessed what could potentially be accomplished in this beautiful location. It's a perfect laser playground! It's nowhere near a populated area, and it's totally deserted at night
I hope this has inspired some of you to get out and take some outdoor beamshots. Stay tuned for some more beamshots in the near future, and thank you for reading this! Cheers everyone :thanks:
