Hi guys, im new to lasers but ive been doing some serious reading the past few days however certain area's of the law have me confused.

I'd be looking at investing in around a (> 200mw < 250mw) green laser, purely for experimental purposes (creating shapes, filming video effects and scientific learning etc) however im not exactly sure how the law in the UK works regarding lasers, more specifically weather that power of laser is legal at all? i was under the impression it would be legal with certain safe guards in place, such as IR filter and key based lock mechanism at the back?

Also im interested in understanding what grade or type of goggles i would require for such a powerful laser? if i was to acquire the pointer via this forum then i would go for a package that would include the right goggles, but if i go to manufacturer or such then i will need to buy my own?

one final question though this is slightly offtopic relating to the safety and legal issues...when you purchase a pointer, from a manufacturer and the specs say (> 20mw < 250mw) does this mean your pointer's maximum output could lie anywhere inbetween? so you could be paying £150 for something that by luck you may have been able to acquire for say £30? this is a little dis-hearting for me

thanks in advance guys

regards coolkeg
