Craigslist...Never again...

my friend bought a supposed brand new Microsoft Professional 2007 from craigslist for $55 a few days ago, It arrived tonight and guess what? It was a burned CD of Microsoft Professional 2007   it was paid for by paypal so hopefully he gets a refund  :-/ they said they were in Ann Arbor Michigan, the mail came out of Deland Florida....

Had to cut out some personal info and CD key just in case ya know...

Thats mucked up, if he used his credit card through paypal they can claim a chargeback with the credit card company. Also, report whoever sent it to the police for fraud, and copying intellectual copyright and selling for a profit.

Those two crimes alone can land them in jail for afew years if all works out. Most likely a huge fine and a slap on the wrists, though, depending on how much they sold, etc

we were thinking about doing it tomorrow morning, calling the police, filing the report, and so on. Hopefully he gets his money back and that person goes to jail for a good long while

It's not Craiglist's fault at all. That site is designed to be a local pick-up site, which is why the regional divisions are present. Craigslist even has a large warning at the top of the page against paying any way but in person, for reasons of scams like this!

I have had great experiences with Craigslist. It's not the site, it's the seller...

I know it's not craigslists fault but there are just too many scammers on there. I've been scammed in a similar fashion before and so have my friends. Now I will only sell on craigslist not buy anymore unless they are willing to meet me in person in a public place

I've always gone to meet the person I'm buying from, mostly at their house, and once in a private place. That's why I don't get scammed; if they were a scammer, they probably wouldn't let me see the product.

I usually go meet people when I sell things, they seem to be more comfortable with that (though I always bring something to protect myself just in case ) I've sold everything from cars to Xbox 360 hard drives and fans. I'll just stick to selling things from now on :-/

I've bought tons of things off craigslist... Over the last 5 years I've made dozens of transactions, I've found apartments and jobs and sold lots of stuff too.. Never had any problems whatsoever, though of course, I've never been dumb enough to do anything over paypal/mail, every single time it's been meet in person, cash only.

They say in big bold letters on every single freakin page of the site "Avoid scams and fraud by dealing locally! Beware any deal involving Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, cashier check, money order, shipping, escrow, or any promise of transaction protection/certification/guarantee.".. It says that on every ad, at the top of every page, at the top of every category, any time you go to post an ad, as well as every email that ever goes through craigslist. It's in big red letters some places, I don't see how they could make it any clearer.

Yep, always meet in person. Even that can be risky though lol. I've seen so many news reports about craigslist. Such as people being beat up and simply robbed, or ones like them telling you to go meet them somewhere and then robbing your house while you're gone. Crazy stuff. But on the other hand, it is a great place to get stuff ;D

yea, I've sold a ton of things on there and bought a few thing but now I kinda don't trust buying from there... anyways when I do go to meet them I bring something to protect myself ;D knife, sword, whatever works ;D
