Converting a pointer to a standalone

ok so I bought a green laser pointer (its actialy a flashlight style) from DX.. its one of the new ones they have..
its a 100mw green..
Since that time i have purchased a scanner, and some eye protection and was wondering if i should convert the pointer to a standalone stage style laser.. if that would work, if its a good idea.

Thoughts??

Well if you have more use for it as a desk module than as a pointer go for it.You just have to get the module out, add some extra cooling like a big heatsink and a fan for unlimited duty cycle and power it externally.

Sorry to burst your bubble here, but for lasershow work you normally wan't a reliable laser that can be safely run for extended periods - IE not a DX laser. If you do want to make it into a non portable, you can remove the internal module, do your best to heatsink it, and connect a regulated 3V power source. However, DX lasers are not designed to dissipate the type of heat they need to for extended use, and heatsinking them to that level would be extraordinarily difficult to the point where you may just want to buy a separate 100mW laser :-/

Im gonna use the flashlight style as a stand in while i build my SCANPRO20. i will open it to see what heatsyncing it would entail (i have access to a full machine shop including milling machine and metal lathe).
