I recently started a project to build a laser engraver. I'm fairly comfortable with electronics but I'm a complete newbie to the world of lasers. After some research I bought this laser diode with its housing. I have not gotten the safety goggle yet but they are on the way.
In the meantime, I thought I'd build a laser driver. I know they need to be constant current sources. I researched and found plenty of drivers based on the LM317, however, this chip wastes a lot of power and I was looking at a more integrated solution. Would something like LT's LT3477 and ST's ST1CC40 work? They are actually constant current LED drivers.
