Does anyone know how fast these things should be able to go and what they like drive signal wise for semi fast operations like engraving images?

I can't seem to get mine to work particularity quickly. I'm driving it off of a system intended to control a synrad tube. It works but it's not so good at firing up? What do these lasers like to see? I can make an adaptor micro controller to adjust the signal if i need to.

Issues it has are mainly for bar code like patterns where it has to turn on quickly. Those small areas don't really get burned at all. You have to slow it waaay slower then I've seen these things operating on YouTube.. so does anyone know what signal these things like and respond well to?

As far as I know, they should be fine for a good 10KHz maybe? The limiting factor here might be your power supply. You could verify this by monitoring current waveform versus drive waveform if you've got an oscilloscope.

10khz.. do they need tickle?

It just seems to be very sluggish turning on. The power supply and tube are a matched pair.

Current waveform on the input?
