Was just delivered today. Several problems with the order already. I should have taken the average of reviews here for o-like and passed on buying from them. But for 29 dollars, and the possibility of >200mw... I was willing to take the risk. I have a weakness it appears now for red burners. I'll be doing a full review of this unit here in the near future. My question that I have right now is if anyone has any direct experience with disassembling these particular units from "suzie". I pretty sure I'll need to replace the diode on this one soon. Its quite powerful. I can't measure it, but its got more burning power than my homemade lpc826 running at 300ma.
UPDATE: As expected, the red diode has gone belly up. Much sooner than I anticipated. This is with a VERY conservative duty cycle of <15 seconds on and >15 seconds off. My guess is that they are using the cheapest dollar store diodes they can find in bulk in these units. I now have a good reason to begin tearing into this unit down just to see exactly how poorly they are made. This could prove to be a problem though. I think because they are building them this way, they have made them very very difficult to disassemble so that we can get a look inside. Thats ok, I love taking things apart. No matter how hard they make it. The harder the better I always says.
