Not sure if any of you guys are aware of what is going on here in the city of Charlotte NC but it's quite wild how far it has escalated. Please give your opinion on the issue and what you think should be done!

Charlotte police shooting: Family says video is unclear - CNN.com
^ Some of the stories.

This all happened over a office shooting and killing a man who was in his car, supposedly with a gun. The same story as we have been hearing all over the US recently. I don't really feel like every one of these stories are how they're being made out on social media but some of them COULD be true. I am not in their shoes, so I cannot really say how they are treated day to day by an officer but as a white male, I don't always even fully trust the local police.

The issue is, not all police are untrustworthy or crooked... In fact I am sure many of them are stand up men who would put their life on the line no matter what your race; but these people are going well overboard for some single few officers that may abuse their badge.

Bottom line, you shouldn't judge all people based on one person; and you shouldn't tear up your own city while protesting.:thanks:

Thanks for sharing!

Honestly, I feel for that family & am getting pretty tired of hearing all these unjustified shootings. However, that dosen't mean you get to go around vandalize property and start blocking highways(where you will get run over) and causing complete chaos. What bothers me the most is how with all these violent acts the only thing which ends up happening is money being dumped into fixing a destroyed city whilst it could of been put to better use, for example making sure all officer shootings which resulted in a death be investigated, which dosen't happen quite often these days!

There is just no need for what is going on right now. I agree with you Alex. Police should not take someone's life without genuine reason. And people can't go acting like that. This seems to be becoming a regular occurrence at the moment.

Yeah, it is kinda scary what's going on Curtis :/

Yes, I like hopefully most people, just want all of this to stop. Some of the videos are shocking to say the least.

Yeah, don't get me wrong I understand many people are frustrated & they have every darn right to be angry as all this injustice that goes on, but taking it out on other people who haven't done anything is silly & won't get anything done. Plus, it kinda proves their point that "these kind of people" are thugs, and people up to no good since they start trashing everything!

*sigh*

Riots don't solve problems, in fact it just creates more. A peaceful protest with no violence or vandalism is acceptable in these circumstances. All rioting does, is create a larger gap between civilians and the police force. Which is not what they need right now. The officers responsible should be investigated, and that is all they have to get across.

I don't get into political debates on the forum very much either. Especially if it isn't anything to do with my country. The media tell us what they want us to hear.
As for the outsider protesters. It is just an excuse for people to come to a foreign place just to tear it up and not have to deal with the consequences. Their violence and disruption is not going to help things.

I typically stay out of politics here on the forum, but I have to point out that 70% of the people arrested in Charlotte were from out of state.

There is some outside force coordinating these riots. These people from out of state may in fact be paid protesters.

I suggested the same in the LPF Presidential Candidate Thread. Wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last. Divide and conquer. Governments and rulers have been doing it since the beginning of recorded history.

I agree that police shootings of unarmed citizens need to stop, but rioting, looting, attacking innocents and damaging property isn't the solution to this. We do have some problems where cops unfairly target black individuals in our country, and this needs to be addressed. Blacks also need to acknowledge their own cultural problems and higher rate of crime than other races. I think ending or changing how we fight the war on drugs could fix some of these issues.

I also think that most of these so called protestors don't even care about the shootings. They really just wanted an excuse to get their smash n grab on. It's indeed fishy how the protestors get bused around the country to wherever the latest police shooting occurred. Seems like there might be a greater plan at play here (puts on tinfoil hat).

Those people are acting like savages. They should be at the mercy of society but its the other way around. And hiring quotas dont belong in armed law enforcement or any armed security service in the colour of law. That man lost his life to incompetence not of his own but the incompetence of someone who should never been hired for armed law enforcement. Charlotte needs well trained zoo keepers that understand consequence and that are capable of making calculated rational decisions.

No one seems to trust the media until one says there's a conspiracy going on. "Zoo keepers"? I'm not there, so I can't speak from experience in this case, but there are PEOPLE who are protesting and there are others who have been looting. I tend not to believe in conspiracy theories as they are usually just pure speculation. Sometimes there are conspiracies, but they are usually blatant and unrelenting. It is a shame what the police have been able to get away with in our society, as if they are held to a lower standard than to a higher one. I guess there will always be some people who will take advantage of a situation and use it as an excuse to break the law. That is something I've seen many times over the years.

So when the riots broke out the protesters left? Or does one support the other? Destruction has taken over the narrative. The protests are just the marching band for the arena of chaos. Not soley the protesters fault but the community and culture. This is their only recourse in their minds. They are perpetual victims of their own ways. They suffer a blind rage and no constructive direction. Sympathy and admiration is the furthest state from understanding. The whole thing is truly sad and the solution does not fall on me.

Sure, there are some cops who should have never taken the job coming to work thinking of shooting someone as soon as they flinch. Old cops retire fast, and young people don't want to be cops because the job is to risky and you can easily be scrutinized for doing your job in a wrong or right way. It's a dangerous life, you have to imagine the things they see on a daily basis.

I agree that they are unfairly targeting certain races, but if you listen to the video of this situation you can clearly hear the police officers saying: Drop the gun... drop the gun.... if you had multiple officers around you, who seen you were openly carrying a firearm, and you turn around or get back in your car with all the windows up and not listening to any demands from police officers, what would you expect to happen to you? Do you think you are above listening to any authority figure, or just scared of the ultimate outcome anyway? It's common sense really.. plus if you open carry what is the first thing you are supposed to do when an officer approaches you? PUT YOUR HANDS UP

SOME of the protestors may be from out of town, and who knows why they showed up but I CAN tell you that a small majority of them were not there just to protest; They wanted the violence and riot and looting to happen and it was their sole purpose of being there, stopping cargo trucks on the interstate, looting stores, what possible message can you relay with this? Just proving a stereotype.

We haven't seen the video and are only going by the police reports. It was said by the chief of police that you couldn't see a gun in the video. Saying to drop a gun when you know you are being taped could easily be an excuse to shoot and drop a gun later. It has happened before in Houston, TX back in the early 70s and the police were caught at it, but never convicted. If you trust the police to be above board in every situation, you are either very young or naive. They just shot a black guy in Arkansas that had his hands up. Shot another one several weeks ago that was on the ground with his hands in the air.
