Can a laser make a star?

I think that even if it works and they create a mini star, it won't last very long. What do you guys think?

That's just the media's sensationalism for fusion. It's been in the news often. You are correct - the "star" lasts for less than a millisecond (perhaps much less) and is smaller than a cup of coffee (perhaps much smaller).

It's just for proof of concept.
