Would you be able to use a replacement webcam style optic like DX SKU: 15774?
Just as u get a pack of six to play with. there m12 thread which i believe my 30mw green
romisen L-D030 has so it seems like a no mess swap (i just dont want to take the lens out
of the plastic housing an glue a new 1 in) :)

regular laser collimating lenses come with 9x0.5mm thread, means 9mm diameter with 0.5mm thread pitch.
besides that: i dont think cheap replacement optics in-a-bag would collimate decently. in fact you need aspheric lenses, no "regular" lenses you know as magnifiers. and finally, proper lenses are dirt cheap. they come in aixiz modules, and there even are AR-coated (for red) ones (less light lost when passing through the lens) on ebay for one dollar each!

but hey, i assume those arent really expensive, give it a try! :-)

oh, and have a look at the threads about re-using dvd-drive-pickup lenses, people had good results with them too.

hm, shouldn't these be diverging lenses? and a laser needs a converging lens? meaning these split the beam, while we want to concentrate it? if that is true i don't think you could achieve anything remotely interesting with these. please correct me if i'm wrong, i'm a little bit confused right now. and this forum is missing a confused-smiley... [looking for one]

Thanks, that kind of makes sense. (i think lol) ill just look on ebay. is there a perticular spec i should look for? Thanks again

no, camera lenses are focussing, they focus onto the tiny ccd chip.
lens: acrylic is cheaper, but not necessarily worse than glass. ar-coating: nice bonus, but must be for the right wavelength/color! focus/focallength: when short(er), the beam is tighter, but diverges faster. if the focallength is too long, you lose some power which doesnt hit the lens any more at that distance. 5mm (3-8mm) should be reasonable.

again, look for the collimators from virtualvillage at ebay. cheap, and good for reds. they are ar-coated, other specs are fine too.

watch out for them, they can really nail you for shipping multiple items!

When I ordered several lenses, they charged me their regular rate for each one!
I did see that on the checkout page... but figured it would get adjusted as so many other eBay sites do. But even after I emailed to ask about it, they would not adjust and I ended up paying $34 shipping!!!
