Hi all,
I'm getting ready to do the DIY Dorcy Metal Gear Laser and could use some advice. I've read through the thread about the Dorcy Jr and noticed that it said something about once the old LED is removed, you need to break a connection on the circuit before soldering the new LD in place.. Is this also true for the metal gear? I'm not sure if the circuit is the same on these two lights, but if so, can someone please point out what connection needs to be severed on my drawing below?

On the first image below, where exactly should I solder the pos and neg wires to? I assume where the LED originally was?

Also, if anyone knows of a write-up about converting the Metal Gear, could you please post a link?

I've attached a couple more drawings showing exactly what I'm planning to do.. Please give me your opinion as to if it should work or not..

Thanks!

No connections need to be broken with that. I have done a "Custom" Metal Gear that I built a full re-done driver for and it should work great for you. Just be sure to add that extra regulation since the included regulation simply sucks. But as for attaching the diode just do Positive to Positive and Negative to Negative and you'll be fine.

Oh! And be careful that you don't have bare wires that will short out in the Aixiz Module. Heat shrink is your friend!

Ok, sounds good then. Thanks for the reply!
