i know everybody here is pretty much a laser expert or an enthusiast through and through but do we have any expert's in the optical discs field?
i needed some more info on a few things.
disc type ie - BD-R/BD-RE/BD-RE DL etc
one thing i never understood is the disc layers.
how many layers does a normal bluray disc movie have?
what's the situation with the new 12x laser diodes capable of reading 4 layers?? how does that work different compared to the 4/6 & 8x burners??
can anyone fill me in please?
thanks.

BD-R is recordable disc with 25GB (burn once)
BD-RE is rewritable disc with 25GB (able to erase the disc and burn again)
BE-R DL is recordable disc with 50GB (burn once)
BD-R DL is rewritable disc with 50GB (able to erase the disc and burn again)
I think most popular blu-ray disc is 1 layer with 25GB
There is no 4 layers Blu-ray disc on the market

layers is a completely different thing than speed. Another layer means that the laser focus a bit further on the disc. You're confusing terms IMO.

A dual-layer disc has two layers of data, one of them semi-transparent so
that the laser can focus through it and read the second layer. If there are more layers, it's just adding more semi-transparent layers.
