Hello,

At first: im pretty new to all this (Blu-Ray)-Laser stuff, so sorry for any mistakes.
Since I figured out a few days ago that you all extract the Blu-LD from Xbox 360 HD Drives, I did as well and broke the glass in the Diode. Sad The LD was put into a first Housing and after removing this the LD was "sorrounded" by something that looked like a Donut Cheesy. So I tried to press the Diode out from the Front and thats when the Glass went away Sad then I tried taking out the Glass and thats where ended the "Life" of it Sad(. So now I wanna start REAL:

I made a List and I need you to tell me, whether this will work (and if i should do/buy it like that):

Blu-Ray sled with LD from:

laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1216205287

(any better Place? + is this also put into a "Donut-Housing"?)

Micro Flex-Drive from

/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1209418066

Aixiz Diode Housing(with Lens(plastic/acrylic):

from Stonetek.org

Dorcy Jr. Housing:

from Stonetek.org

Thats it.

Greets from Germany and sorry for my bad english Smiley

Guten tag, and welcome to the forum!

Your diode may not be dead.. the glass "window" in the front of the diode is not really necessary for anything, and your diode should probably be fine if you cut away the metal and take out the broken glass.

I don't understand what you mean by "Donut Cheesy", could you explain?

The "donut" is the heatsink around the diode in a DT0811 sled. It is best to cut through this heatsink with a hacksaw or the like, instead of trying to push the diode out.

The sleds for sale on here are the PHR-803T sleds. They are higher power, and MUCH easier to get the diodes out of ;D.

Oh.. and if you are careful, you can cut the "can" off the diode, and use it as an open can type. Just be SURE you do not hit the element or hairthin wires inside.

"...Just be SURE you do not hit the element or hairthin wires inside."

Already happened :D but in germany we say: You learn from mistakes. so now I will do better and buy a 803 sled :) you think i should buy a heatsink for the setup above ?

I've ruined a few diodes also, so I know about the learning part:)

Search the Buy,Sell and Trade section. There is a guy selling the Dorcy Junior heatsinks:) With one of these , you could drive an 803 at 120mA or more, and most likely get over 100mW ;D. The heatsink will help insure long life of the diode.

The flexdrive also has a "soft-start" which helps ALOT also. You will really enjoy that setup. Just remember to disable the boost circuit in the dorcy. It is inside the positive end of the battery tube. You can also strip the LED plate of all electronics, and use it to hold the spring that connects the positive between the halves in place. You'll see what I mean when you get it apart.

Good luck with your project!:)

Thanks man for your help !

Another question: The guy who sells the driver told me i should buy a collimatic (?!). Do i really need this instead of the Aixiz Lense or is it just a good extra ?

I think he means "culminator", which would be the lens in the aixiz module.

hmm now im confused... DrLava said i probably need a collimator which i can buy here:

hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/Micro_FlexDrive.php

Along with the drivers, drlava also sells aixiz modules with either a glass or plastic lens. For violet light you want to use the plastic lens.
As far as I know those are regular aixiz modules, nothing special... saves on shipping time though, to buy them from the same place.

PS: if you put http:// in front of your links, people can click them.
