best way to add an IR filter?

I am thinking of getting either the "90mW UltraFire WF-501B" (SKU:9311) or the "50mW Flashlight-Style 10-Meter Waterproof Diving Green Laser" (SKU:8923) but I don't think either have an IR filter - please correct me if I'm wrong.

This will be my first high-powered laser, and from what I've read, IR is the most dangerous parts, so I definetly shouldn't use a high powered laser without an IR filter. Is there an easy way I can add an IR filter to them so they will be safe to use? Thanks.

Nah, that's not the problem with unfiltered lasers. There's a common misconception that IR is much more dangerous than green - verdict: BS. The IR is still dangerous, but it pales in comparison to the green laser light.

The problem with an unfiltered laser is that a "150mW" unfiltered laser may often only truly output 20mW of green, and even that is unstable, crappy green. IE, you're paying for 150mW, and getting very little of what you pay for.

The danger is in getting scammed!

yeah, i haven't been able to find any info about it. do you know in general how DX lasers are? will it be really underpowered, or not good quality or what...thanks.

I've found DX lasers in general to be great, other people may say otherwise, but I like them. All mine seem to put out more than the rated power, I've not got a meter to test them on yet, but when i do i'm sure they'll test good.

My true DX30 worked pretty nicely... for a week. Then it died and couldn't output more than 5mW lol.

ok, so now that im pretty sure i know what i'm getting, and it doesn't have IR filter...how dangerous is it without an IR filter, would I want to add one, and how would I go about ding this.

ir isint realy that dangerous because it spreads out from the laser like a flashlight if u wanted to add a filter novalasers sells one,but about how to put it on it i dont realy know.

If it's the dx flaslight style laser...take a piece of over exposed photo negative or the film from iside an old floppy disc, unscrew the head off the flashlight and place over the tiny hole where the beam exits, screw the head back on and you're done.

is that as effective as a store bought filter, and what difference would i notice from without a filter??

Never heard of the photo negatives or floppy discs, I dont realy know if that would work because ir can usualy pass thru like black plastic, and the green light from the laser wont be able to go thru it caues its so black. If u look at the front of a remote the plastic on it is usualy black because visible light cant go thru it but ir can.

I think it is just as effective, I'm going off what other forum members have said. (If i'm wrong someone correct me, but i doubt i am) The difference would be negligable as it only filters the ir.

ok, because i've heard a lot of people saying that part of the 90mW power rating is IR so if i add a filter it'll go down to like 20mW
