Is that the profile of a raw diode? Or after it has passed through the collimation lens?
That's 28ft down range, after a collimation lens. Uncollimated diodes don't give you a narrow line like that, you get a large "blob".
A line isn't attractive, folks prefer a dot or semi-dot, well I do at least. I've done a bit more searching and came across this vid showing a homemade laser with an acceptable beam profile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puZFaIDHG2I Now if I can determine if the PL-E Pro has such a profile that would be acceptable. Maybe I'll email JL for an answer.
At first I didn't notice the beam is being clipped at the long axis. It's such a nice blue, but without beam correcting optics I don't think it's worth buying.Maybe using a 3 element in that build, looks like the beam is being clipped at the edges to me. Still a nasty beam by my standards.
Here's another showing what to expect:

Maybe RedCowboy will chime in, he's usually got some good example pictures of beam profiles.
