Batteries for LaserGlow Aries

I've got a LaserGlow Aries 200 arriving today. It takes C cell batteries. Does anyone know if this works with rechargeable batteries? If so which is the best brand?
 





I know Windstrings tried some, and they were a tiny bit too big - I cannot recall the brand - but I have not tried yet :-[

Just ordered some Ansmann 4500mAh NiMH C rechargeables for my just arrived Aries 200 ( which is amazing!)

If they don't fit I'll just use them elsewhere.

Does anyone know roughtly how long batteries last with the Aries 200?
 
That alkies I use last forever it seems - I have thrown out three pairs, just due to my "need" for top power when I show it off ! I have never actually drained a pair, and I use it nightly....
 
I believe a good set of NiMh rechargables actually deliver "more" punch than alkalines.

Its true the alkaline voltage is higher when resting, but under load it really drops farther than the resting voltage of NiMh's.

I can send you some links that show this with a bulb as the load and all batteries used were new or fully charged.

Some batteries may be a tad too long.. the Aries has "no" tolerance for too long of a batteries.. the ones I got were 5000mah that were about 1/16 too long each for a total of 1/8 inch.. I couldn't get the cap screwed on right with those!

The accupower 6000mah are good.... just make sure they are exact specs to alkalines.
 
so far all rechargible batteries including the accupower 6000 have been to long to properly fit the aries.
 
I'm slightly confused how one person says the AccuPower 6000 fit and someone else says they don't!

I've found some AccuPower 6000 for sale in the UK but don't want to waste quite a bit of money if they don't fit....

Also, and this probably seems a silly question, but being a massive 6000mAh do they need a special charger or will my Ansmann Energy 8 charge them fine?
 
cyberindie, you ask a very good question! You have the world at your fingertips and I suggest you take advantage of it. There are many great resources for battery information, the site that Windstrings posted links to has a pretty good looking knowledge base where you can find FACTS about concepts such as capacities, applications, differences between battery types, different types of chargers, all kinds of interesting facts. Crate? What is Crate? I had no idea! Now I do!

Don't stop there, keep looking! Google!

How big is a C battery? How big are these "6000" batteries everyone's talking about?

How big is the battery compartment in your laser?

How big are the batteries that don't fit?

How big are the batteries that do?

What does Laserglow have to say? Ask them how much current your laser draws while you're chatting with them. Do lasers need a consistant current? Voltage?

Is there a difference between C cells and C size? (Ah Hah!)

Are there differences between rechargeable batteries and alkalines? OEM and OTC? What are they? Why are they important considerations?

How about rechargeable Lithiums?

Wait... oh yeah, How about e2 liths? I love e2's, does that mean that you should too?

Hey look at this! Did you know that the old-school NiCads still have certain advantages over NiMh batteries? Did you know that? Me neither, but I do now!

Listening to other people's experiences and opinions is great, but accessing information from the source(s) is not too bad either! I'll bet you're the scientifical type that is always curious and eager to learn. I hope this helps or at least amuses.

Battery size is something most manufactures seem to be quiet on!

I had a good look and couldn't find size ( actual mm sizes ) for the 6000.  Indeed the manufacturers Accucell site is 3 years out of date ( it advertises their 2004 - 2005 product line).

Less of this theory - I ordered a pair so will find out and let you know....
 
Now I"m starting to second guess myself.. I hope I don't have my facts backwards as to which company!...

but I actually asked them to measure comparing to an alkaline.
 
Ah yikes!

I hope they do work as I'm finding as Duracell Ultra's get to around 50 - 60% of their discharge the laser stops working - well it works for a short while then switches off. Not helped by a dodgy tail cap - though I find tinfoil at the end of the cap helps slightly but not a total cure
 
I would talk to Justin - see if he will just exchange the tailcap with you - to prevent you having to send the entire laser back ! I have been having some odd issues with the tail cap, myself......when I change the batts, the tail cap seems to almost get cross threaded, and is kinda difficult to get screwed all the way on.
 
Apparently the caps are machines at the same time as the main body so not easily changed.

I also I have to waggle my dongle ( illegal in some US states ) to get it working!
 
I have Accupower 6000 C cells for my Aries 225. They work just fine but the cap doesn't screw on all the way - maybe 1/16 to 1/8 inch too long together.
 
Cool.

The Ansmann 4500mAh NiMH C also fit fine - just tried them.

Main issue is the dongle - seems to make a very poor connection - have to keep moving it around to get things to work. Is this just me or is it normal?
