Wuh-woh... It looks like some knobs here in Canada have been raising trouble by targeting planes. (Not me, I swear!) Here's the somewhat alarmist press release, which despite spelling errors, seems to point the finger at Lab lasers. ::) Luckily for Laserglow and Nova, they apparently haven't figured out that hand-held lasers are a real threat.

It's still an ominous turn of events for us here. I was planning on displaying some laser action when we turn the lights off for Earth Day on the 29th, but I think I'll have to be much more discreet with my outdoor testing given this bad PR.

This is why we should form a religion around lasers just incase they were to ever be banned, that way they couldn't take them away from us.

I'm actually a little worried as I live under an airports flight path, no more then a mile and a half away from the landing strip. I'm afraid just the beam in the sky is going to raise concern, not that I would ever shine it at or even around an airliner.

soooo handheld lasers only cause temperary blindness........ interesting *shines 300mw lasers in eye* i dont think that is completely accurate ... but i better make shure on the other eye ...lol

I'm in the same boat. When the wind is from the North they open a runway that puts my house directly under incoming planes. I'm so paranoid that I think the only time I've ever shined a laser into the sky was up North over Georgian Bay on a crystal clear cold night. And that was just my wee 50mW. I even keep my lasers locked in a firearms safe in case my daughter's friends get curious. I think I'll be using them in the basement from now on, so my neighbours don't report me or something. Underground we go... :-X

I'm glad I live over 30 miles from the nearest airport. The only planes I ever see are miles up in the clouds. I never see any helicopters overhead either. Also my city hasn't had any laser incidents in over 3 years so enforcement is mostly non existent. The only problem is my easily freaked out older neighbors.

Lol, funny you should mention helicopters. Ever since 911, Macarthur Airport, the one next to me, has had Blackhawks flying in and out of it. The last thing I want is one of those getting spooked by my laser.

I'm Stony Brook alumni, I think the only out door use my laser is going to get is at the university where it should be far from out of place.
