I ripped apart a lite on 16x dvd. it took about 3 minutes to have the diode module out and about another minute to carefully extract the the diode. I can't believe how easy it came apart.

I was expecting the diode to be bigger for some reason. If I didn't know what I was looking for, I'm sure I could have missed it. I was expecting something twice that size or more!!!

What is the safest way to get the soldered ribbon cable off the pins without damaging the LD, just a quick application of the heat to loosen the solder and pull the cable off? I'd hate to damage it.

it is that small.

To be safest, cut the sheet of the cable so each pin has its own peice. Grab the peice with some needle nose's and pull then apply an iron and it'll slide right off. Wait 1 minute and do the next one. You can just cut the unused pin short.

If it's smaller than a 5.6mm can ,you've got the wrong component :D But don't worry , diodes can take that desoldering heat just as long as you don't overdo it.

the way i remove the ribbon cable, is getting my brother to hold the diode with a plier, while i'm holding a soldering iron with a nice blob of tin on it and the ribbon with another hand, then i "make contact" to the soldering points while pulling on the ribbon cable, it works really well, you jsut need some1 too help

the dimensions are correct 5.6mm at the largest diameter, I cant wait to get this thing going. My module should hopefullt not be long, the sony diode/aiziz combo has already been shipped, rest of the components are waiting. Hopefully I can video the build and assembly.
