Are the Optotronics RPL 532 series the best...

...handheld laser without regard to price? On their website, a 375mW is still over $1000. That's much more than my 850mW 532 WL Krypton with accessories.

Errrmmm. No offense if that thing was made of gold I still wouldn't give 1000$ for it.

I won't judge their product as I've never had one, but usually 1$/mW of 532 is the high end IMO.

I have read this from someone here as well, but I have read optotronics have really nice beam quality.

A vague response. I've looked at that site and do not see specifications for the beam. Define best beam quality.

No. Their prices are pretty out of date honestly. I'd recommend a jetlasers PL-E if you want a quality 532nm.

Agree 100% --while they sell/offer good fixed focus lasers with excellent beam quality from a time before focusable lasers were generally available they still are offered at "dinosaur" prices from early days/times past it seems.

Looks like they have been around a long time--web site says Copyright 2005-2013 at the bottom left of the homepage . I don't think high power battery powered DPSS portable lasers are their main business any longer if they ever were. They only show 4 output powers of 532nm in stock, all of them middle range output and $1000 or less and no 473nm in stock so....

Let's not forget another site with "dinosaur" prices LaserGlow 375mW Hercules 532nm is $1289 on sale now for $1189.

Yeah, the fact that some people still charge such high prices for 532nm units is crazy today! Most companies charge about $1/mW and for some, that's still a little on the high side. 473nm has also become pretty affordable with some lasers outputting 100mW's for about $400 whereas in the past that would of cost a pretty penny

Yup, Opto seems to have expanded its line up "at least its the first time iv'e seen it".
A 457 DPSS laser system at up to 3W "$18,000" ouch!

Yes, they list quite a few interesting DPSS lab lasers

The Optotronics portable RPL battery operated laser listings show in stock only 4 expensive middle of IIIb power range 532nm and show no 473nm --would guess that means portables are no longer a large part of their business

I don't know, but perhaps the reason the prices are high has something to do with the internal components. Compare a diode lab laser such as is sold by Crystal Lasers per mw and you'll see that that type of laser has a much higher price because of more stringent construction.
