Once again, I'm bringing you an article from slashdot, this time about a derivative of the Star Wars project.
Slashdot | Airborne Laser Successfully Tracks, Hits Missile
A high powered laser on a Boeing succesfully tracked and illuminated a test missile, although not at full power. It would appear that the laser is a chemical-based one, and while it won't incinerate the target missile, it will warp and weaken the skin enough for flight stresses to do the rest of the work. It will be fired at full power later this year, since it has to complete a successful intercept in 2009.
