Addding adjustable focus to my laser

I have a 808nm 1W laser pointer as shown below. Its focus is fixed but I would like to be able to adjust it. Can somebody point directions about how this could be possible ?

Can you manually twist the lens inside to focus it?
if not, you are most likely out of luck.

Where did you get it BTW?

No, i am afraid the lens is secured to the host. Is it not possible to add another lens on top of it ?

i find that website insanely annoying the two popup boxes that also scroll when you go up or down on their page. Whoever thought up that stupidity should be fired. BOBLASER IF YOU ARE READING THIS THAT IS ANNOYING.


anyway, how much was it?

looks like the end cap with the hole threads onto the front of the housing. If you knew the threads you could probably attach some sort of beam expander with a threaded adapter onto the front of the housing

It was around US$100.

I thought of the same solution too, but I am not much of a DIY'er so is there anywhere I can buy a readily available adjustable focus that fits ?

For the pop-up boxes. Get AdBlock Plus for firefox and click adblock image on the parts of the popup thing. It will be your best friend next to FlashBlock, which will only show flash objects when you tell it to.

I'm really tempted to get a handheld IR laser and some goggles....

You want what is called a "board lens", type M12. They are used on small circuit baord CCTV cameras.
Measure the width of your tube in milimeters and order one of the correct size. You want an aspherical lens with the longest focal length you can get. -For a little more money, get one with a zoom feature, this will give you better leverage for focusing the beam longer distances.

The tube threading in your picture "looks" like a standard 1mm thread, so it "should" screw in fine.

Doesn't the "pinhole" camera actually only have a pinhole instead of a lens? :-/ Doesn't a lens assembly like that actually have an IR filter? (however crappy it may be)

The lens I posted is not a pinhole lens -though even pinhole lenses still have actual glass or acrylic objectives.
This is a pinhole lens:

And, the IR filter is separate from the lens, it's usually attached directly to the CMOS or CCD sensor or to the bottom of the lens holder. A lot of these cameras are used for security and night vision -having the lens IR filtered would defeat their purpose.
