A Few Questions About Goggles

Hey,
I've got my first laser coming, but I won't need goggles for that because it's only 5mW, however, I am going to make my own later on with a power around 50mW.

I just have a few question:

1. With goggles on, can you still see the beam/dot?
2. Are they necisseary if laser is being used outside?
3. What goggles should I get for a 532nm laser?

1) No, you can't see the beam if the goggles are of the proper strength (OD). Yes you can see the spot.
2) No, not if pointed far away as it should be.
3) If you don't want to spend $80+ get Eagle Pair goggles from SurvivalLasers - it'l say covers 190-540nm. These goggles will protect your eyes from even direct hits.

If you are concerned about IR, and you might be at higher powers later, you might want to upgrade to these.

The oemlasersystems DBD goggles HERE may be overkill, but if you ever plan on going higher power (my second laser was a 1.3W 445nm. 3rd laser was a 20W 808nm) you may need better protection. My philosophy for eye safety is do it once do it right.
