Was looking around the web today and I found a site with lots of laser stuff. One of the items I was looking at was a 700MmW LD in a 9mm package. I am not sure of the cost yet but can you buy an AixiZ housing to fit 9MM LDs?

Tried to attach the PDF but it would not let me so I attached an image from the PDF.

They also have 1W LDs but I am not sure of the mount. Here is the site if anyone wants to look:-

Well given the fact it is 635nm, the price would be astronomical. And no, I do not know of any Aixiz modules that accept 9mm diodes. But the Meredith modules would work...if one could only afford the diode.. :P
 
What do you think we are talking about here? A little finger or an arm and a leg? ;D
 
Probably more than an arm and a leg.. ;D Maybe in a couple of years we will be talking fingers.. :P They might be mutimode diodes.
 
I'd say it's worth asking anyway. Granted, we're probably looking at high 4-figures per, if it isn't a multimode.
 
Hmm from the image I posted the 3rd line says "These broad area multimode lasers...." I guess thats bad then?
 
They are multimode for sure, but these power levels at 635 nm represent an enormous amount of light.

The problem is that they will not be very suitable to produce a useful beam in terms of divergence, a 100 uM source is really huge. For comparison, a single (TE) mode laser has a source size in the order of the wavelenght, which is 100 times smaller than these. This equates to 100 times worse divergence too.

For building pointers and such, these would act more like very powerful tiny leds than the laser diodes we're used to.
 
Very kool though. I wouldn't mind having that much power in the 635 wavelength.

Well, things that sound too good to be true usually are ;)

I'm affraid higher powered single mode diodes at 635 will remain rare, as they have little practical application besides building scaringly bright laser pointers. A 700 mW 650 nm might become available at some point, as long as the optical storage industry will develop a need for them.
