Hey guys,

I found a laser level from my uncle's pile o' stuff. I didn't see him using this in ages so I thought I'd take it apart :shhh:

Here is the entire module. This thing seems to be smaller than those found in pen lasers.

All three pins are soldered to the board

Not sure what driver type this is. Must be linear.

This may look orangey but it real life it appears as 650nm.

Refraction grating on greenie.

Here is the dot of the laser. Lens is fixed focus. The dot is somewhat rectangular. I thought 650nm is supposed to be a circle.

I can see a very faint beam outside. Pretty impressive. I dunno if it really is 5mW. Btw, this is the laser level:

Unrelated. Total internal reflection in a magnifying lens.

Thanks for looking!

The pictures are a bit big since they should be a maximum of 600x800.
Still though they are very nice closeups and are better than i could do.
Looks like a nice laser to embed in a ultra small build.

It was a PITA to take the close ups because I do not have macro lens. I had to use a magnifying glass for some shots.

There's no diffraction happening there. It's all refraction.

Gotcha. Thanks.

Anyone got a clue what diode this is and why is the dot rectangular?

I have seen that module before. I ordered some red laser modules online and it looked identical, driver board and all. It ended up having a normal closed-can red laser diode, there was no square beam.
