50mw Budgetgadgets Review

SHIPPING

Shipping took about 15 days from Shanghai to my home , which is pretty quick for China. As nearly every laser you order from china this one was also packed in a big bubble wrap package. I asked the support for a tracking number which was not accurate because when the laser arrived it was still at " Item dispatched to overseas" :D . The laser itself was came in a nice black box with space for two CR2 batteries.

THE LASER ITSELF

Looking
I really like the laser because of the small dimensions and the short body, which makes this laser a great pocket laser. It has a very sleek, black looking body and some deeper machined rings on the head for better heatsinking. It has a tailcap clicki that i personnaly enjoy for tripod usage. One more thing: The threads are incredible smooth.
Pic of the laser in custom lego tripod :D

EMMITED LIGHT
The beam of the laser is very clear which means it does not produce any artifacts. I can not tell if it is IR filtered or not , but if it is not you could just put a cheap IR filter inside since you want to open it. One thing that makes me lucky is that the beam is not misaliged because my other cheap China laser are all misaliged but on the other hand this laser has crappy divergence but thats not noticeable at night so no big deal. The power looks really like 50mw but since I do not have a LPM I am just able to guess the output. The Laser needs around 30 seconds to warm up to reach full power.

INNARDS
Unfortunately I was not able to open the laser to check the innards but I saw pictures on dealextreme of the same product where the head of the laser was unscrewed. :(

BURNING
This laser can only pull of a few burning tricks like popping a balloon, cutting thin dark plastic and smoking black leather. With an additional magnifying lens this laser is able to light a match in 5 seconds. But burning ablity was not the reason I bought this laser.

BEAMSHOTS

A few beamshots in my bathroom with smoke:

And one outside at night:

CONCLUSION

I am really happy with that laser I am using this as my pocket laser and for that prize you can not go wrong. As I said earlier the only thing I do not like is that the beam is a bit divergent but that's about the cons. Some people might do not like CR2 batteries because of the short run time. But since I am using this laser not that often the battery last two weeks or so. All in all i can recommend the laser for people that do not take care that much about beam specs and beginners.

Thanks for reading.;)
