Ok, I have a 100mw Red laser module that is going in my laser scanner but there is a big problem. In England the power is sent at 240 volts, the scanner takes 240 volts but my 100mw red laser only takes 220 volts.

Is there some way I can get like a step down transformer that will change the power to what I need?
 





Those are nominal voltages - you should be fine.

Oh are they? I read somewhere that in the UK power is transmited a high voltages to the houses and steped down to 240 volts for normal use in houses.

So it will be fine connecting it up as normal?
 
Read the heading "Supply Voltage" of link below. It's normal to have a variance in supply voltages in different areas of the same grid.

Usually the UK handles 220v-250v so you'll be ok with your 100mw red ;)

It didn't come with a power supply so I guess its to just connect it up to the same one as my scanner.

unless your scanner has a laser diode driver designed to operate that red LD chances are that you'll let the magic smoke out of either the scanner, or the LD

My scanner is from a kit, it never came with a laser. The DSP has a blanking output on it though so I can connect up another laser to it.

What am I supposed to do then?
