200mw laser?

Hello,
I recently purchased a 405nm 200mw laser pointer from a site called ecrater that was classified as a burning laser. It does not have an adjustable focus and I have found that it is incapable of lighting matches or burning anything. Is this because 200mw is not powerful enough to produce any substantial effect or is it under power? If it is under power, is there any way of modifying it to make it burn/increase its power?

Most low end chinese laser websites claim their lasers are far more powerful than they actually are. As long as the beam diameter is small (1-2mm) it should burn well if it is 150mW or more. Chances are it is <100mW though if the price was far less than quality chinese websites ask for that output power.

eCrater is a web site hosting free ads. They don't sell anything themselves. There are thousands of sellers there, most of them based in the USA, and most but not all with poor reps. Most but not all items are overpriced. Hundreds of these sellers also sell on eBay and amazon.com often under the same name. ECrater is a risky place to buy.
