18650 Batteries with pcb?

How much longer are these protected cells, compared to the unprotected ones?

I just bought one, 18650 battery and charger, from a local shop. The battery wont even fit in the charger! I had to crack the sides of the charger, just to get it, to fit.

Now I'm worried. The laser I bought this for, should be here any day. I hope it fits. With out forcing it. In the picture, you can see this laser does not use a coiled spring for battery tension. Instead, it uses a small clip. From experience. I know these don't liked to be bent to far, or to often.
Anybody have experience with these protected cells being a size problem?

Most devices that use round batteries have springs one one end. This should allow for the extra length without issues.

I hope so. I have never seen a unprotected 18650. So I have no way of knowing how big this cell really is.
Maybe the charger I got. Would have been tight even with a normal 18650.
The amount I had to flex the plastic, even after the charger's clips were bent back, was considerable.

I have a very similar host to the one shown in your pic, a protected AW 18650 fits it fine width wise but is about 1-2mm longer than an unprotected cell and so i cannot screw the tail cap all the way on (probably i could but it feels very tight and i dont want to force it) i think this is due to the lack of a spring in the tail cap because of the key switch. It does not effect the laser except cosmetically.

Hard to tell with my crappy photography but the cell on the right is the protected one.

With unprotected cell tail cap screws all the way in.

With protected cell there is a slight gap.

Thanks Ways, for posting the photos.
Your tail cap sure looks the same. As the one on, the laser. That I ordered. I guess I can take back the battery. If it does not fit the laser. To bad because, now the charger is cracked.
