Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Are you trying to say something about the size of my laser?!?  ;) But seriously, I rechecked everything tonight, and of course it was me, not the equipment.  When all else fails, go back to the original source.  I was attaching the neg from...

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Going back to this post, wouldn't 20-30% effeciency of 200mW be 40-60mW?

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Thanks Rog & EF for the replies.  I'll check all of the above tonight again, and also with a different DMM.  If that is truly the output though, sounds like the driver might be trashed?

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem OK, got the dummy load built tonight and hooked it up to the driver output pins.  As suspected, the voltage dropped when under load, I was getting a consistent reading of 2.4V using three 1N4001 diodes.  However, I'm not sure about the readings...

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Wow, interesting tidbid of information! I put the crystal set back into the housing and screwed the endcap back on after the pictures, so I think I'm OK. Once they absorb moisture, can it cook back out from heat generated by the lasing process?

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Yes it is the driver that is built into the mainboard of the mobolazer unit.  I'm not too worried about it not working, I'm just trying to fit all the pieces of information together that have been so graciously provided by you folks here on...

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Thanks for all the help!  I suspected that a loaded scenario might have a lower voltage, which is why I kept pursuing the concept of a dummy load for a green laser.  So I'll get that soldered up and take some test measurements.  Thanks again...

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Hmmm, so the data sheet for my replacement LD says 2.3V max and 1.9V Tty (Typical?).  The laser output pins on the built-in board I've got was reading about 3.1V with no load.  I'm thinking I will fry the LD if I hook it up to that, yes?

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Oh I most certainly have ideas floating around in my head of doing that, but I figured for $12 I couldn't resist fiddling around with it just to see what would happen.  The adapter does fit the barrel of the casing, and the small diode will...

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem OK, starting to make more sense now.  I looked at another spec sheet for one of stonetek's other diodes (it was a clear pdf so much easier to read), and I see where the diagram shows common being at the "point" of the triangle and anode being...

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem The diode datasheet is here http://stonetek.org/shop/images/808_200.jpg which Greg says is lacking, but I don't have a clue how to read the schematic part of it. Unfortunately the old diode had only two pins, neither of which was originally...

    Dummy load for a greenie?

Thanks for the reply, and sorry not to have posted back sooner.  I've been waiting for my replacement LD and an adapter to come in before I dove back into this.  Is there a thread somewhere about the logic behind the dummy load?  Like why for BR you use 6 1N4001's and only 4 for red?  Oh, and if...

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Got the LD and adapter in today.  The LD has three pins on it, is there a standard for which is positive/negative connection? Thanks again to all for the provided help!

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Thanks for the reassurance. I'll probably get a couple of diodes at that price, and if it doesn't work in the can, I may try to load it in my small metal lathe and take off the can with the cutoff tool, and if that plan self destructs, I'll...

What are the differences between driver units?

Thanks for the quick reply and concise description of the differences. For my current application, heat dissipation shouldn't be an issue and it is mains powered, so lots of voltage can be made available. So looks like I will forge ahead with the DDL driver.

    Dummy load for a greenie?

I will be building a dummy load for red/violet units, and am wondering why there is not one for a green. Is it because the power input is really related to the output of the IR laser and the green output is just a variable sub-power (based on crystal alignment, quality, etc) and you really have...

What are the differences between driver units?

First off, can anybody just plug this website into my brain and dump it in like the Matrix?  ;) But seriously, I am currently intending to build a Daedal driver for use with a BR LD.  Is this a reasonable idea, or do I NEED a rckstr or flexdrive?  I'm not afraid of building my own stuff, but I...

    HOW TO: 405n(blu ray) Labby

Thats quite a nice unit you've got there, I'm considering building one myself now.  Could you run one of these for a couple hours at a time with a heatsink like that one and fan cooling?

Help request for replacing a laser diode assembly

Re: Help request for replacing a laser diode assem Thanks for your previous two replys, looks like the aixiz module might be the way to go.  That size would fit perfectly into the space on the mobolazer where the old laser went, and then I could tune it to whatever power I needed, based on the...
