Howdee.
-Consider it as dangerous as a firearm; in some scenarios even more dangerous.
JUST SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF AND MAYBE USE SOME OF THE ANSWERS TO UPDATE YOUR QUESTION (CAPSLOCK isn't me yelling; just the headline of my answer)...lol

sorry, for the late reply...Yes the tripod screws on with it's own 1/4x20 threads, to the hole in the heatsink that I drilled/tapped. Thanks for digging my build!
Re: Meta Topic : Pinout & Performance of actual LD
that's some useful stuff there. thanks for all the homework you did, as it'll surely be priceless help to many!
Thanks Vanillah; yes the heatsink is from Anomalytech and it works quite well. If you're curious why it's gold instead of black, just take a propane torch to yours and it'll look the same...;)
Thanks y'all. As you can surely tell, I'm more of a function over form kinda guy...lol
Weathered wood might be a challenge, but perhaps some patina'd copper might find it's way into the next build! BTW, I think the finned heatsink is the way to go vs. the heavy mass solid heatsinks. Might not...
I hope y'all like it...don't be too brutal!...lol
Can build lasers but can't figure out how to reduce filesize of vid and not sure I'm posting properly so my apologies if I did this wrong.

SAWEEEET!
The link to the ballast/bulb is either broken or I've got an issue? Mind checking? I'd love to have the ballast/bulb to start a project with...4D Mag in hand...:)
EASY goggle mod. Get some glow powder and 2-part epoxy. mix and paint on goggles. Will glow proportionately to the amount of light that hits it...especially UV. I dunno how to post a video to this thread so I will link to it on my FB. I'm sure someone will tell me the better way to share...
The heatsink is theaded 1/4 x 20 which is standard for most camera tripods.
And yes, as far as dissipating heat, it seems to be perfect for this, as it just gets slightly warm to the touch with 20 minutes or more continuous use...prob would transfer better with thermal compound but doesn't need it.
This is my first build. I elected to do it without a kit. Used stuff laying around the garage as the host, to include 2 Harbor Freight flashlights, some pvc, an AN fuel line fitting, my old military uniform with fiberglass resin, aluminum "welding" rods...
