    Current absorption and beam measurement

I've a cheap LPM, a DIY TEC based. Calibrated on a 20mW laser. I'm asking this question even because, trying the 300mW absorbtion red laser I'm reading 120mW on my LPM. It makes sense if the efficenciy is almost 30%. Unfortunately this LPM is the only one I've, so i can not be sure about my...

    Current absorption and beam measurement

I'm sorry but i forgot to tell you the diode type. For the specific question is a red 635mW one, do not know the model. Anyway this question is pretty generic. Speaking in general terms, non IR diode, has more or less 30 percent efficiency. It means that if a diode absorbs 100mW, it should...

    Checking broken laser diode

tks! So: 1] Do a pinout/wiring 2] Feed slowly voltage from 0 to 2V 3] IF diode absorb current THEN that's the correct pinout ELSE the pinout is wrong 4] check other pinout (back to 1] ) 5] IF not pinout works, THEN the diode is broken right?

    Checking broken laser diode

Thank yours replies. So, in short, they could be actually broken. I usually test diode using a LM317 powered @ 9v, starting up from 5mW, testing pinout. If the diode asbsorbs some current with the select pinout, then i turn the LM317 driver pot up and i test with more current. Is it a good...

    Current absorption and beam measurement

Hello, a simple question. If i measure the laser beam of a diode that absorbs 100mW current, what value should i read. I mean, i suppose there is some power loss between current absorption and light emission, isn's so? Thanks!!

    Checking broken laser diode

Hello, I've two laser diode possibly broken. All laser is tested in a close box using a webcam (a.k.a. eye security :) ). One is a IR from a CD-RW, it absorbs current from 10mW to 15omW, but emit low light, as comparison i've other IR from CD-RW, up to 30mW laser beam begin to blind the webcam...

Simple Linear MOSFET Dimming Circuit + PWM

Ok, thank you! So my diode will "suck" all the current i give him :)

Simple Linear MOSFET Dimming Circuit + PWM

Sorry for this dumb question: what if a power a 100mW diode led laser, using the 750mW proposed circuit? thank you :)

Focal length and laser power for engraving

Thank you for help and for interesting replyes. Yes i will add a fan, as i've already done with the other smaller engraver i've built. I suppose it's 150mW, but i'm not sure about that, what i'm sure is that it is a red dvd-writer diode. I will write here for further news in this project. ;)...

Focal length and laser power for engraving

It's a junked-DVD led, so that's more or less the power.

Focal length and laser power for engraving

Hello, i'm building a laser engraver, using a 150mW red diode. The laser it is mount on an AixiZ 5.6mm housing. I'm wondering this: does a 5 to 30cm distance from the laser to the engraving working plane affects the engraving capabilities of that laser? In other words, fiven a 150mW power...

Low cost sheet semi-transparent protection sheet

Hello, I would like to know if there is a low-cost semi-transparent laser protection sheet to use as a window for a chamber of a laser engraving machine i'm building. Actually i'm using safety glasses, buy maybe i can build a safety box, like the pro laser cutter has. My laser engraver has a...

    Laser dot question

Thank you, Yes, i've glasses but i would like to give this laser engraver to a friend, i just will give my glasses too ;) Another silly question. If the dot of a 100mW laser is out of focus, let's say a 2cm dot, this will not cause problem, or better, serious problem, right?

    Laser dot question

Hello, I've read a few post about watching the laser dot, but i can not find the answer to my question. I'm building an engraving machine, using a DVD-rom writer red laser. I suppose it's a 100/150mW laser almost. Laser it is mounted on a 12x30mm 5.6mm TO-18 AixiZ housing. Question is: is it...

    Goggles for red laser suggestion

Hello, i'm would like to build an engraving laser machine using two old cdrom. The laser i would like to use comes from a DVR burner, it should be almost 200mW, red laser Before connecting the laser, i would like to ask you a suggestion for goggles. Here some link: ~30Euro: Protection Safety...
