How small can you make the dot? I have a 1.5w and it doesn't burn good unless the dot is <4mm. I also recommend getting a better lens...

Yes, sorry about the incomplete circuit. I mentioned that it was only a rough sketch and was up late last night. I too have thought about making a long ranged tv-b-gone that worked somewhat like this. Remove the 1uF capacitor from the diagram above.
