I'd rather have a diode with a sharp and clear dot and full output power with a decreased life then one with a fuzzy dot and reduced output power because of a damaged laser diode window, that has a little longer life. That's why I did try it. And luckily I succeeded.

To get back to the topic, i’ve reed threads that mention members like DTR etc that do de-canning of laser diodes. Is it worth to let those people de-can my 445nm 1W diode? Maybe to keep it spare for a future build, or to be able to continue using it in the laser when the diode is fixed.

Yeah I noticed that too. I think I will go for a Sanwu Pocket Series. Any other recommendations for small high(ish) output power lasers of which the beam is clearly visible and that can light matches? My budget is no more then 100 euro’s. Including shipping and (new) safety gear.
