I joined in February and started building 2-3 months later, but then again I already had a lot of experience with electronics. The learning process will be different for everyone. I got interested in building from the kipkay video but found the forum while searching for reviews of green lasers...

That sounds like a good idea, it came in the other day (very nice by the way, I think I ordered a size too large though).

I know it's a bit late, but I just ordered one of the hooded sweatshirts :)

I'm able to barely see the beam of my blu-ray outside when it is extremely dark. Have to do some repairs though, I accidently fried the diode (a wire broke and I soldered it back in the wrong spot . . . that's what I get for being impatient :( )

I was wondering this as well . . . what are the power levels where safety glasses 8-) should be used. Obviously you shouldn't look into any laser that's powered on, but where do reflections off glass become dangerous as compared to more diffuse reflections? Is there any set of rules that can be...

If it was me, I'd gut it :D. (I'm also happy with regular DVD's) For practical purposes, it probably makes more sense to use this one for a Blu-ray player and wait till the price comes down to buy a drive to gut. That way if anything goes wrong you don't have big regrets.
