    Lasers in 10 years time!!!!

Yeah, as above I have to go with laser technology. In particular, quantum dots - 3D photonic crystals. For those not in the know how, a photonic crystal is a crystal with refractive index variaation in 3D at light wavelengths. The periodic variation causes the material to have a bandgap like...

    Bizzare Phenomenon ??(Added Pics)

Yep, if you point the most perfect laser pointer at the moon, your beam it still going to be several kilometers in diameter. That might be an under-estimate though.

    Bizzare Phenomenon ??(Added Pics)

Ahh, Poisson's spot. It's an interestng read for those interested h t t p : / / w w w.dctech.com/eureka/short-stories/poisson.php The same diffracting technique is what i thought may have been used on the match, only with two straight sides and the finite width of the laser beam providing the...

    Bizzare Phenomenon ??(Added Pics)

Light is a wave like any other, the only diference between it and waves like waterwaves and soundwaves is that its wavelength is just under a micron. Sound is about 1m and shorter in air, with the low frequency being around the 1m mark. All waves will diffract (bend) around an object, the level...

    another diy burning video guid

Yeah I got passed this pretty quickly, and plan on making it as I can pick up each component for under $25 (DVD burner sells at my favourite PC store for $25!) When I do, I'll let you know how things go with the diode lifetime. See if I can add some components to limit the current a little bit...

    DealExtreme

Did you steal my thread or did i steal yours? I cant be bothered checking post times :) I can't believe there is free shipping for all international addresses for most items. Sure, lasers are generally light weight but some of those items must cost less that what it costs to ship them. I think...

I can wait. You're from the US?

A good deal or a good con...

Well, I am writing up a little experiment involving audio modulation onto a laser beam and to do so I need to replace my laser (died when my variable resistor died). It might sound complex, but with a trip to Jaycar (Australia's Radioshack) you should be able to spend about $10 and have all the...

    Cheap Optics? Waaay cool duude

I really do not understand the kind of company that refuses to sell internationally. If it costs more, up the freaking postal costs! Bad business practice.

    Help, Please!

Ahhh, the radioshack site sates they are normally open, which mens that pressing it down will close the circuit momentarialy. But, there is only two pins on each switch so it seems weird that you could wire it in such a way that you have achieved the opposite. So, either the switch is broken...

    laser cooling Einstein condensate

Quite interesting stuff, we (Swinburne University) do quite a ot of experiments with it in the hope of understanding what new physics you can achieve. One example is that we hope to b able to create a atomic interferometer which requires a large number of atoms to behave as a single wave (a...

    White pointer

Three seperate modules will be an issue, especially with alignment and size. Putting three diodes within the one module though, that would make things easier..and more expensive. There would also be the issue of dispersion, where that nice white beam would split into its components when passed...

    Ruby Laser? What is it

I wouldn't mind one of them, although that is one hell of a long charge time. It would have been cool to see if he could pop a few more baloons at the same time.

    Introduction

A direct copy from lasercommunity: I am a 22 year student from Melbourne Australia currently in my final year of my BSc(Photonics) degree. For those not upto date with the term, which is probably few of you, that is the study of light. In particular, the use of light to manipulate information...
