    BluRay Driver?!

I posted this in the deals section but it may be easily missed by some. I am posting the link here for anyone interested in a premade constant current source driver for blu-ray diodes http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1193603901

Die4Drive for BluRay lasers (also for GB diodes)

In my initial search for BR drivers I came across the modified Die4Drive being used by andy_con for his blu_ray burner laser. So I shot him an email inquiring about the modified driver. Although I am currently building my own driver, I thought others might be interested in a small and...

CHEAP electronics parts for DIY lasers

Yes this store is great. Great prices. Those 10uf 16v caps should be all you need for BR diodes. Note especially the 50ohm 25 turn trimpots for $0.99

    Blu-ray diode PS3 KES-400A price drop. $27

PSX boy has dropped his prices for these modules. They are now $30 for 1 $27 for 5+ units + shipping + Paypal fee Might not be as good at drlava's GB price for single pieces but probably about the same if you are buying >5 pieces. And it ships straight to you USPS doesn't eat all the money...

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. Great. I am going to follow that circuit very closely. Just waiting for the parts to come in. Is that red thing just a spacer and the square block a 6mm tactile switch. I have those too but they are rated for 50mA. So I was thinking if it gets toasted the...

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. Well I was thinking with a resolution of 4ohm per turn and 10% tolerance. Maybe you can be accurate up to half a turn but that is still 2ohms and the voltage range is estimated 10-15ohms. So perhaps 50 ohm 25 turn might be more precise up to 1ohm per half...

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. Hey rog I am thinking you will need 10-15ohms if you run the pot in series to the diode. so a 25 turn 100ohm might not cut it unless I am calculating it wrongly. Check with gazoo before running to see what he uses. I am waiting to see if this works well too. :P

Some guy out to make a quick buck but probably not someone from this lpf GB.

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. Actually I was asking what the battery spike was to the Vin of the regulator and not at the output. But even if you spike 15v through the 7805, it should be able to handle it(35v max) and the reference will still be 5v across the resistor. I don"t see why...

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. Just want to check here. What are typical battery spikes for say 2 cr123 or rcr123? If it is 15V or more some regulators might not be able to handle them.

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. Yes. I mentioned 5-15ohm might get right current with about 4.5v depending on the diode. Still the only advantage this gives over driving with 6 volts + series resistor direct is a more stable input voltage. We might as well use a 6.2v regulator and use more...

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. DDL I am not convinced by 5v/35mA=143ohm That's what I thought initially. But looking at Rog's diagram his LD input is connected after the trimpot connected to the common pin. Since there is a fixed 5V difference between the Vout and the common pin, there is...

    ** BluRay Diode GB **

Hey Mark, You are doing a great job since you got on of them lasing nicely. To measure the current you don't have to plug in the ammeter. Just measure the voltage drop across your 44ohm resistor (in voltage mode on ammeter) and divide it by its resistance. Should be 1.4v/44ohm=0.32mA...

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. Ok. I'm gettng confused again. catdog says it needs 12v if running as a current regulator But you say the vdrop is only 1.7v. Or are you saying that rog is going to use the 7805 with a series trimpot which will drop the 5v output further depending on the diode.

    ** BluRay Diode GB **

1.4v over a 44ohm resistor gives 32mA and not 136mA. I don't understand the readings you are getting.

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. I had the impression that wouldn't work unless your Vin is 12v

    CR123A housing HAS blue ray.

Re: CR123A housing awaits blue ray. He's selling some smd caps too if you are adventerous. From the spec sheet iirc 1.0uf or 2.2uf is sufficient and the esr range is pretty large too. Gazoo do you have circuit boards to actually mount these on? Sent you a pm.
