    Aurora Borealis Time Lapse

Its my first try with Aurora, so I was still struggling with seconds. I guess you actually need a 5 sec F2.8 exposure at ISO 6400 or something for time lapse, but I was doing 13-14 seconds. With the in built intervalometer it was a 13 second shot with 14 second intervals, so 1 second gap between...

    I made a time lapse

Thanks for the comments everyone! the clouds were fast moving, so I had to keep a 10-12 second gap. So total time was around 800 seconds. Infact, I saw the clouds forming, and decided this needs a time lapse. If I had started it earlier you would have seen the big cloud in the first frames...

    Get Some Safety Goggles Now!

I think if I am pointing a 2W blue laser at the open sky, I can safely look at the beam without issues, right? However, looking at the dot even from 20 feet away esp on a white wall is no no!

    Aliexpress 1W+ Blue laser review

I got this laser from a Aliexpress seller. I was wary of buying, but form member ramneek (Laser Pointers - View Profile: r4mn33k) bought a few from this seller, and LPM showed 1.2W approx. So I decided to take a plunge. The price was 120$ listed, but I messaged seller for 110$ for a special...

Melting stuff - Be extra careful

So I got my first high power blue laser(1W I think). Lights matches instantly, starts smouldering even white newsprint. Reading all these posts here has resulted in a protocol I follow. Laser is in box without batteries inside laser. I simply wear my goggles, then insert batteries, and then...

Wavelet noise reduction in GIMP to the rescue. And the fact that ambient temp was close to zero also helped!

Thanks for liking the pic guys. Its a 40 second expsure at F2.8 at ISO 4000! Few seconds won't get you this image. I used a Tokina 11-16 lens mounted to the D7000 What you need is 1. Camera capable of bulb mode -> To go above 30 seconds 2. DSLR (APS-C or bigger sensor needed) - For lower noise...

Approximating laser power without LPM - A scientific way

Oh boy, I never thought my thread would generate so much 'heat' literally. I am in India, so there is no LPM nearby to compare. However, coming to calorimeters, before the age of the semiconductor, calorimeter was pretty much anything anyone had. In the 19th century scientists got fairly...

Should there be a "save draft" option for writing new threads?

As I mentioned, vbulletin(even older versions) allow you to create a section for this purpose 1. Threads in this section have no editing restrictions, you can edit or delete posts 2. Only the mods and thread starters can view threads. Invisible to all other members 3. Once thread is done, thread...
