Contest (feeler): 2-months, to design a NEW community boost driver!

14V is simply the IC spec. I would modify the circuit to run whatever. I think the 2.7V to 14V IC only had an output capacity of 2.5A... wouldn't be as nice as 3A output but I guess it beats 1.4A =P. Going to put in a order for the parts soon and will be trying to do a preliminary build on...

Contest (feeler): 2-months, to design a NEW community boost driver!

Oo nice, so i'll out beat the flex drive if I can make a 18650 full power a 12X? I think i'll go for the 2.7V to 14V IC then. Will require a 3.6V Lithium ion min to run. Would that be a major issue? Do people here fancy batteries of lower voltage then that?

My new baby 6A Dummy Load

If you want wattage just buy a 200watt cheapie 1 ohm resistor. No heat sinking required and a god insane amount of current can be pumped through it. Only danger is you have to be careful about high wattage resistors. They are wire wound and thus you can get something called inductive kickback...

FS J.BAUER Electronics LaserBee 2.5 Watt USB only + Data Logging.. In Stock Now

Re: J.BAUER Electronics LaserBee 2.5 Watt USB only + Data Logging $119.99.. In Stock Wow, congrats on the meter. First time finding this thread haha... Wouldn't be easy to cheaply compete with this. Long time for developing software and USB interfacing. I assume you guys buy a prebuilt generic...

Contest (feeler): 2-months, to design a NEW community boost driver!

Then how would a flex drive work with that? Flex drive manual says only from 2-5.5V volts? Currently working on producing a boost/buck driver. Input voltage from 1.5V to 5.5V. Max current output 3A. Output voltage 1.2V to 5.5V. 95% efficiency Is it worth producing? Or I could make...

Contest (feeler): 2-months, to design a NEW community boost driver!

Sorry, still new to the laser community, why wouldn't it work? 12X builds have a higher voltage drop then 4.2V or what is the issue?

Contest (feeler): 2-months, to design a NEW community boost driver!

how would you regulate the current output of that? Put a pot in series with the laser I assume? Hmm... so why don't people just use this instead of the flex drive? It does boost and it would seem to do the job. No point in building a boost driver if there is already one out there thats a good...

Contest (feeler): 2-months, to design a NEW community boost driver!

Well, you can't say you can't copy someone elses design because odds are all they did is follow the datasheet and i'll do the same if I build one. =P In addition there only a few ways to do this type of thing so if I make it, one could easily argue I copied it assuming I chose one of the same 3...

    How boost converters work

Well... thats all do-ible but its all a matter of efficiency. I've been working with electronics for along time but i'm new to the laser business. I don't know the flex drive specs. In order to develop one i'd need a flex drive in order exceed or replicate the design and/or i'd need a highly...

    Quick Driver Question

Cyparagon is correct. Say your voltage drop across your diode is 3V and your supply switches from 8V to 7V. There will be a some spikes during the transition but it should all occur in less than 100ms and thus not affect your diode substantially. For starters, when experimenting, always have...

    PWM Ringing at high Freq

Good question! I have no idea. I'm also curious as to how much the inductance of my long wires to the laser diode affect the circuit as well. Every small bit of capacitance and inductance is massively critical at high switching speeds. Sadly, I'm just a student now. Hopefully when I take optics...

    How boost converters work

Yup... this is one of the ways. There 3 ways known to man to practically increase voltage. 1. Converting your DC to AC and then putting it through a transformer and then converting it back to DC. 2. Switch caps from being wired in series to parallel. The basics of a voltage doubler. 3...

24 dollars for a simple boost driver? You got gold plated components on there or something?

    PWM Ringing at high Freq

LasersBee, as stated in the original post I was using 20mF of capacitance which is a decent amount. Was using overkiill so people wouldn't just tell me to add capacitance which tends to be all fix for many people. ;) After further consideration of the circuit i'm pretty sure one of the killing...

    PWM Ringing at high Freq

Any idea how to remove ringing when PWMing? PWMing my laser diode in a low side driver configuration. Meaning my laser diode is connected to voltage+resistor in series and then the switch. (Done so I can avoid the almighty evil of a Pfet or the complexity of using a N channel mosfet as a high...

    Oscilator with Freq+duty cycle control?

So I've managed to build a current source that is PWM-ible to about 500khz+ at 2A+. Now i'm just looking at building a Frequency source where I can change both the frequency and the duty cycle independently of each other. Most relaxation oscillators only have a 50% duty cycle and with 555 timers...

    Optical Power Sensor

Which ever works with a decent degree of accuracy? Not sure what laserbee and radiant alpha use. I'd like to build a meter equivalent to one of those. I got a pic board+microprocessor + power source... again, I just need a sensor that has a good degree of accuracy and can be bought off of a...

3A Super Pyroload Driver Test Load

BAHAHAH don't want anyone stealing his super secret mysterious ICs now does he? =P Not a pretty idea to remove the labels... risk damaging the n channel power mosfets in the process. However, why so many fets? 1 Fet can drive 3A easily with proper heat sinking. Also, why fets in series? if...
