WTB: Your unused diodes and modules.

I was actually going to order a few more PHRs. They make for great sled disassembly and diode extraction practice. Got any high-power red sleds/diodes?

Strange output from PHR-803t at low power

Battery can be 10440 or AAA. It's a generic boost driver.

Strange output from PHR-803t at low power

Interesting. I posted it because I've never seen such an effect in a red diode. Like the host? :D

Strange output from PHR-803t at low power

That's with a lens, but defocused. I've dropped the thing a couple times, that could be it :P It's also not press-fit quite right, and I need to swap the driver out.

Strange output from PHR-803t at low power

So, I just got my PHR build up and running, and I noticed that at low power, there seems to be output alongside the main output that is definitely not just 405nm. goninanbl00d suggested that something inside the diode's can is fluorescing, and I find this to be the most plausible answer...

WTB: Your unused diodes and modules.

Yeah, but that would have been obvious :P Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that you should sell me your diodes/modules.

WTB: Your unused diodes and modules.

Kevlar: Yes, I meant that Leodahsan should search around DX's flashlight section, as they have loads of 18650 lights. Krogith: 9000 was a deliberate ridiculous exaggeration, in reference to the "over 9000" internet meme. My sig isn't worth explaining, as the meme involved there is somewhat more...

    Pink Laser 500mW

    borgqueenx: Short answer: no.

WTB: Your unused diodes and modules.

9000 is obviously an exaggeration, it's more like 20. Should have specified that I prefer visible wavelengths. Leodahsan: try DealExtreme. Also, you can replace the 3xAAA cartridge in most hosts that take 3xAAA with a single 26500, available at Lighthound. EDIT: I mean 22500. 26500 would...

WTB: Your unused diodes and modules.

So, I have somewhere around 9000 hosts that are collecting dust due to my lack of lasers to put in them. If you're in the opposite situation and have more diodes or modules than you know what to do with, I will certainly consider buying them if you're willing to ship to Australia. Also, happy...

    Pink Laser 500mW

This has been a bizarrely interesting discussion to read. The conclusion seems to be: While it may be theoretically possible to create some device that emits a beamlike stream of particles or waves that destructively interfere with any light that they encounter, we currently have no such...

    X/Y Laser Music Visualiser

Somewhere I saw someone use the magnetic lens mount from an optical drive as a similar device. I think I/we should run a contest for the most creative/complete re-use of a laser sled.

No more hot glue for you, mister :P

    Rayfoss RF-405-20mW

Yeah, the plastic-smoking was done with a focusing lens. I'll see if I can get my hands on some GITD paint. For beam visuals, you should really go with 532 nm. I discovered that CRTs fluoresce somewhat, and then remain glowing faintly for a short while.

    Rayfoss RF-405-20mW

Oh yeah, almost forgot about GITD stuff! 20mW isn't a lot, though; it wouldn't appear glow for long, except in a dark room.

    Rayfoss RF-405-20mW

So, I got my newest laser today :) www.rayfoss.com Shipping took maybe three weeks, but it got through customs. So far, I'm very satisfied. I don't have an LPM, but it smokes some plastics quite quickly, and I've heard that rayfoss pointers can be quite overspec. I'll be metering it on the...

    Shooting down flies with laser?

Electric rackets really are a better way to kill bugs. Probably the best way to do it with a laser would be with a quick computer tracking system and a laser of a wavelength readily absorbed by flying insects. If the system is also advanced enough to measure how far away a bug is, then it could...

    Time Travel

Or is it you that's the organic hard drive, and your life is a simulation to occupy the non-data-storage portions of you?

    Time Travel

I think that time may well be circular, and have more than one dimension. I have this method of visualising an arbitrary number of dimensions, but when I try to explain it to other people without using pen and paper, it's difficult to get past about 5. Probably because it involves containing...

    vacuum and high voltage

Awesome pics, argon! You should see if you can source some cheap inert gases. Argon gives off a soft purple light, like in the first discharge picture. It's quite pretty.
