    DIY Laser Power Meter

    Very nice!

Using a DC/DC converter to power the laser

They could be used but the feedback reference voltages are fairly high. You would be wasting a fair bit of power across your sense resistor or you could add another comparitor stage to provide the feedback voltage. Of course, this would require prototyping to ensure stability. Pretty well any...

    DIY Laser Power Meter

Great jobs rossco and knimrod! Looking forward to getting mine. I may use your schematic and try to shrink the board to surface mount (if I get energetic and can find the time). Cheers, Paul

question about voltage for 405nm pointers

These are Bluray. The Dorcy flashlight he has the LD in has a voltage boost circuit. If a 1.7V (E2) battery is used as a source, the voltage will boost too high and the LD will run at too high of a current.

How bright should a Blue Ray look next to 5mW red?

Re: How bright should a Blue Ray look next to 5mW Sorry to hear this as well. Sounds like COD. http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/laserdio.htm#dioldl

    DIY Laser Power Meter

RoSSco, sorry for taking so long to reply - work was crazy this week and I have to head out of town again on Sunday for the week. Can you PM me you paypal info and I will send payment off before I leave? Thanks, Paul

How bright should a Blue Ray look next to 5mW red?

Re: How bright should a Blue Ray look next to 5mW That was probably at around 40mA. They should be very visible at 45mA. Remember that there is a lot of neergy in the beam you don't detect with your eyes. Try the same comaprison on white paper (or something that will fluoresce) and you will...

How bright should a Blue Ray look next to 5mW red?

Re: How bright should a Blue Ray look next to 5mW See the last pic of the first post in this thread: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1196123930/all-0

Input Needed for Next Project Idea

I would be very careful switching at output of the LM317. The output can swing high (unloaded) during the switching process and the LDs will likely receive voltage spikes.

    Strange laser blur output

I have had the window coating on a couple of my LDs develop burn marks and cause that type of output. No beamshots but see if this resembles your case. http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1189268933

Blue Ray DVD Writer - Diode Harvest

Re: Blue Ray Diode Harvest? What Gazoo said. Take the 4x-8x one (250mW) for example: Power in (V*I) = 5.2V x 0.135A = 0.702W (702mW) Power out = 250mW (according to spec sheet) Electrical to Optical efficiency = 250/702 = 35.6% (the other 64.4% is discarded as heat) (Keeping in mind that this...

im using LG 20x DVD burner diode, please help!

Gotta jump in here. :) These comments are for when the diode is used in parallel as a reverse current protection. In normal operation, the voltage drop across the doide will be the same voltage the LD sees. (i.e. the voltage will vary as per the V-I curve of the LD). However, the current...

Blue Ray DVD Writer - Diode Harvest

Re: Blue Ray Diode Harvest? Be sure to check the fine print: :) 120mW *3: Pulse optical power output : duty 50% or less, pulse width 50ns or less 170mW *4: Pulse optical power output : duty 50% or less, pulse width 10ns or less 250mW *4: Pulse optical power output : duty 50% or less, pulse...

    DIY Laser Power Meter

Thanks roSSco, I'm out of town until the end of the week but I am interested. I checked the USPS web site - it looks like shipping is in the $16-22 range (if I read the tables right). Paul

    DIY Laser Power Meter

This looks like a fun project. I am very interested in getting one of these, however, I'm in Canada. Can a US member help me out? Paul
