    Help me fix this laser

Hi, I've managed to get my green pointer working again briefly but the problem was the glue holding the KTP/vanidate in place kept warping under stress ruining the alignment. I second the thing about the alignment, it is ridiculously critical; X-Y and the rotation of the diode is vital due to...

    Broken/faulty diodes wanted

Um, no. I just revived two totally dead (20 ohms in both directions) 405 burner diodes using a technique based on reverse pulsed bias. Used 9V lithium (maybe important, there seems to be a current limit on these) applied in reverse with very short pulse cycle. Seems that it "blows out" the short...

    Laser induced sonoluminescence

Cryogenic Sonoluminescence Heh. I was chatting to someone about this the other day. Wonder if this would work with a >1W pulsed infrared laser? If so then it raises the interesting possibility of building a SL cell which works immediately without the annoyance of having to carefully ramp up...

Don't try new Samsung 22x dvd burner.

Wonder if they are small enough to put three in a triangle configuration in an Aixiz with the mounts pointing outwards? That would be interesting methinks, the beams would be centred nicely and you would get about 2.7* the power of a single diode provided that you could adequately cool the thing.

    808nm 1W Diode?

I have one spare 9mm 1W 808 here, any use? Also have some 300mA 808 in the 5.6mm package. -A

DLP projectors laser diodes extracted red and green?

List a few on ebay under "5W Burning LED" or something... Some people may want them for experimentation, also another possible application is security lights... 5W of red would be a very effective deterrent and also work brilliantly with some low lux b/w cameras to improve information...

    Broken/faulty diodes wanted

One red burner fixed, the two 445?s I have are both reading 20 ohms in both directions so they are 100% dead sadly. I also now have to repair my 405 burner after the positive wire snapped off during my attempts to fix a short inside the can... Will keep you posted :-) -A

    red diode on sf-aw210 sled

Might have been that the diode was running right at the edge of its COD limit, screwing the lens in could reflect enough light back in to cause it to fry. -A

Potential showstopper for >0.3W laser diodes

Indeed, it seems that the laser induced detonation thing is possible, however as others have said there are easier ways to do this including salvaging krytrons from discarded photocopiers. I'd be more concerned about misplaced weapons grade materials in the first place, than the theoretical...

    Undo superglued in glass lens?

Hi all. Does anyone have any ideas how to non destructively remove one of these from an aixiz? I put a single drop of glue on it having carefully focussed and aligned it, and evidently it got inside the module! (GRRR!) Next time use Epoxy.:scowl::scowl: Any ideas how to undo this mess, as its...

Potential showstopper for >0.3W laser diodes

I read that such a device may be possible, by using electrical and TMS at the same time... although it would probably be more like phosphenes rather than a full on trip. Seems that applying a few milliamps using stick on electrodes they boosted learning abiliity, so its possible that a...

    445 killing spree :(

I've managed to repair a bluray burner (200mW?) with a snapped off pin before, used the Superglue+baking soda trick to secure once solidly soldered. 30 gauge SMD solder works well :-) Just also fixed one of rhd's "broken" red LDs, using modwire.. amazingly it worked although it is a bit ugly...

Potential showstopper for >0.3W laser diodes

Yeah, I recall reading about this. See http://www.distobs.org/intro.html for people making distributed radiation sensors using cellphones to detect nuclear smuggling. I think the best way to see it is that "Nature is constantly throwing particles with much higher energies at each other, if the...

Potential showstopper for >0.3W laser diodes

Hi all. I was reading up on some very interesting work on using lasers for plasma experiments, as it turns out that you could use two or more high power lasers to focus on the centre of a sonoluminescence cell in order to generate a bubble without the use of hazardous isotopes. Recall a few...

DLP projectors laser diodes extracted red and green?

Heh, this would be a ridiculously powerful torch if someone could make one handheld. Even if the diode was run at 10% of its rated current that would still be brighter than a Maglite. People who have a lot of these projectors should really think about selling the red emitters, as I'm sure a...

    Is my SF-AW210 dead?

Between LM317 Adjust and Gnd. i.e. LEDs in series between anode and cathode of LD, so if the voltage rises too high the LEDs turn on to let you know something is wrong. -A

    Blu-ray PCB etcher

Hi all. This is an experimental PCB photoresist exposing setup I am building. Currently posted on 4HV as well, but thought you'd like to see the progress so far. The mechanism is from a discarded Apple Laserwriter printer, which has glass optics and a well made robust hexagonal mirror assembly...

    2107mW 445

I intend to test this theory :-) Obviously under carefully controlled (read Peltier TEC) conditions. BTW has anyone here experimented with low melting point alloy to hold modules in place? This would seem to be an effective technique as the metal fills up the gaps in the casing and yields...

New BDXL writers available at Frys

Wonder how hard it would be to make a drive which could burn 4 layers at the same time? Presumably the inter-layer distance would be constant so the optics would need to be able to focus at multiple points within the disk but the rest of the optics would be similar. -A

    Is my SF-AW210 dead?

I'd have added a 220 ohm resistor across the diode as well, in case the lead comes adrift. This way at least the diode has a fighting chance. I would also put a series connected blue and red LED to make sure you can see if something is wrong and turn off the power. -A Who fried an expensive...
