HELP with DX green laser pot mod

There are several versions green lasers that DX sells. On many of them the pot does nothing. You have to confirm which you have. Post a clear pic of the PCB.

    My Home Brew BLuRay

Well, it's a Li-ion so it's 4.2V open circuit with a 3.7V nominal rating. I don't recall the mAh rating. You can find them in the Dealer section at CPF Market Place (sold by user AW). Make sure you have a properly rated Li-ion charger before you consider these. AW sells them as well (and no, I'm...

    My Home Brew BLuRay

The LR44s voltage will sag quickly, but they may run it for a while. If you have Li-ion charhing capability, 2x 10180 Li-ions will fit in teh space of 6xLR44s. The laser was lighting matches at the upper end of the drivers range (~60mA). I did not test it in between. Remember that individual LDs...

BLuRay mod #2.  1xAA boost circuit.

    1. I made it 2. yes (but be sure to check the output of other manufacturers' boards - I have seen these in multiple varieties)

    DIY Laser Torch

I would measure the voltage at the resistor (less chance for slipping) but you do make a good point :). My concern with using the current mode is the mistake that a lot of people make by using the mA scale. That introduces a resistance (sometimes up to a few ohms when you include the DMM...

    DIY Laser Torch

I beg to differ. That is the BEST way to measure the current (unless one is incapable of doing the math). Ideally, you would measure the resistors to get a precise resistance (be sure to subtract the DMM lead resistance - probably less than an ohm). The current sink into the Adj pin is in the...

    DIY Laser Torch

For clarification purposes: these components will only have a slight affect on the circuit during transients (milli/micro-seconds when switching on and off). The diode is reversed biased so no current will be flowing and the capacitor, once charged, will act as a open circuit to DC current...

    DIY Laser Torch

If you are using the meter in current mode in series with your battery, do not use the mA mode, use the 20A mode (with the probe plugged into the proper location). The mA mode introduces a larger resistance in the circuit and will cause the driver to drop out more quickly. Note: when you insert...

    My Home Brew BLuRay

Are you taking the 1.25V sense voltage into account as well? There will be ~1V dropout between Vin and Vout but there is the 1.25V sense voltage that must be added as well for an over all minimum dropout of 2.25V (compared to ~3-4V for the LM317). The 1V dropout is valid for a voltage output...

    DX 5mW keychain green (3xLR44) mini-review

It was a little bright at 290mA so I dropped the drive current to around 200mA to make it more suitable as a pointer for presentations and it should also extend run-time.

Yes, the volume of the casings of those button shells constitute to a lot of wastage in comparison to their overall volume.

    pot help please

You are not supposed to use the pot to turn it off. It just adjusts the output within a range. Use a switch between the battery and the LM317.

BLuRay mod #2.  1xAA boost circuit.

I got them at a Princess Auto store ( www.princessauto.com ) but you could probably locate a US retailer from teh manufacturer's website ( www.charge2go.com ) Paul

    DX 5mW keychain green (3xLR44) mini-review

The 10180s have arrived.  See 1st post for the pic. The regulation seems to work. The current was 290mA for a partially depleted (3.8V non-loaded) and a freshly charged one (4.17V non-loaded).

BLuRay mod #2.  1xAA boost circuit.

I purchased another PS3 module with the intent of putting it into something smaller than my last project. http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1194303946  Ideally, I was looking for a 1xAAA sized package using a boost converter.  I could tweak the 1xAAA drivers to get it to lase...
