Quick writeup on two Chinese lasers: WORD GX "Amazon" 445 nm vs. Thor H 3W 445nm

My main concern is that it might be a very old and used up diode taken from a projector or something and not a clean pin for this specific unit. I'd guess that happens quite a bit with these cheaper lasers.

Quick writeup on two Chinese lasers: WORD GX "Amazon" 445 nm vs. Thor H 3W 445nm

Sorry to hear about your M2. I've only had one of these units but it may be that the 3W Thor H has a higher level of care and QC put into the manufacturing? It looks like they're sold out of them on laserpointerstore as well, I might've gotten one of the last ones. It sucks that this appears to...

Quick writeup on two Chinese lasers: WORD GX "Amazon" 445 nm vs. Thor H 3W 445nm

Heres a short follow up, the Thor H is still holding up great. The main issue I had with this unit is that the focus is just slightly offset from infinity when screwed all the way in, making it difficult to turn it the single tiny hairthreads distance out to get a true "infinity" focus. Also, I...

    Where to buy?

With the world events the way they are right now (shipping from other countries), probably the only way is to assemble it yourself. However nobody here knows anything about you and you haven't made an intro thread so we can't in good conscience recommend you parts.. Do you have safety goggles...

    NUBM31T 95W 455nm

So is this really going to impact the availability of single blue laser diodes (ie is Nichia actually going to discontinue their other diodes and will start only producing these in block arrays like this)?

Styro's video on this unit is up: 🥶😮🤤

I've gotta check out Liionwholesale too. Right now I've got some Nitecore 18350s along with an i4 charger and they're excellent. Ultrafires aren't THAT bad, but you won't get much juice out of them compared to the better options. My Ultrafires have never exploded or caught on fire, lol

Hello. I have some questions about Laser Pointers.

No, the concept of your friend's idea. Laser output is not measured in "brightness," it's measured in mW or W. If he wants to describe the "brightness" of the laser then he needs to wax poetic and be a salesman, not try to invent a new unit of measurement that only he uses when he most likely...

What on Earth did I just read ? o_O

First completed build! And a learning experience

Yup, I’ll post a comparison pic up after I install it when I get home from work Edit: Here we go, here's a pic of the newly installed sink, next to the old one for comparison: It's just slightly more substantial :)

Yep, I’ve looked at DTR’s V/A/mW chart for that specific Mitsubishi diode and it looks like 1.25A is at the very end of his test. Something a bit lower, maybe even half of that would help ensure a healthier diode life.

The parts list looks good but is there any reason you don't want to go with copper for the heat sink? At 1.25A that diode will probably be putting out a bit of waste heat and copper will be better at dissipating that than aluminum. I would go with the extended copper heat sink for your purposes...

First completed build! And a learning experience

I just wanted a beefier heatsink for my s4 as the stock extended sink that came with it was getting hot pretty quickly, so I hit up Rich. The sink he did for my Osram stays cool for a scary amount of time

Just wanted to add that in my personal opinion, assembling these things is not nearly as difficult as some other posters are making it out to be. I had almost no soldering experience beyond hooking up some pickups in my electric guitars and I was able to do it easily. Getting drilled on safety...

I would look at the “Bargain Host Bundle,” it will have everything you need except the diode. You specify which operating current you want for the driver, and I would definitely get an extended copper heat sink, it will only increase your run times. You could also call Gary directly at SL, he...

FYI, this build can be done with any diode. The video just shows the steps to assemble the parts. the diode and output power he chooses does not matter, the steps will be the same. I did not recommend him any specific diode. Thanks for your concern!

It's very easy, refer to this video Good choice in deciding to build your own, it's way more satisfying than buying random cheap pens off of ebay like most people do

Quick writeup on two Chinese lasers: WORD GX "Amazon" 445 nm vs. Thor H 3W 445nm

Thank you! It's just the Thor H, not H2. It's available in 1.6W and 3W versions and takes 16340s. I believe the H2 takes bigger batteries. I found the XM360 video you're referring to and that's the exact sound I'm getting as well. Is this just a characteristic of higher power lasers or the Thor...

Quick writeup on two Chinese lasers: WORD GX "Amazon" 445 nm vs. Thor H 3W 445nm

So with me being a laggard after learning that high powered handheld lasers were easily available back in December, I went on Amazon immediately and got their, as the manual calls it, "High -power blue lightf flashlight." It was listed on Amazon as "WORD GX" along with a bunch of other mumbo...

First completed build! And a learning experience

Thanks Richie. I don't think I'll be making a BDR build for a while, but I have a PLTB450B that I completed maybe two weeks ago with it's own thread. Lifetime17 supplied the host and heatsink and it's a hell of a laser. This particular S4 NDG7475 laser is holding up nicely, and it's absurdly...
